Yes but you're opinion is based on the following three things happening:

1. Brisbane losing to either Geelong at the Gabba or the Bulldogs at the Dome

Very unlikely

2. Either a) Sydney beating Collingwood and losing to Melbourne in Melbourne; or b) Collingwood winning in Sydney and losing to Essendon

Well b) is possible

3. Fremantle losing to either Essendon at the Dome or the derby against West Coast

Likely

I just can't see all three things happening, particularly the first one.

Great result.

Was I the only one cheering on the Swans almost as heartily as I would the Crows? :)

e.g. When Hall took that mark late in the game I let out a big scream of "YES!"

I didn't really like that last Williams goal, that was just a little % boost. :p

:D "cheer, cheer the red & the white":D :D

Nah Dave, you weren't the only one!!! Thanks Swans..........but now it is a bit of a bottle neck...............we must absolutely pump the Kangas this week. Percentage will be everything.

xx

Just looking at the how things could shape in the final two rounds. I'd say things are looking good...

If we win both our remaining matches, we'll finish second - i.e. home qualifying final.

* Barring Collingwood winning both theirs with significant % boosting.

If we win one of our remaining matches, we'll finish fourth - i.e. qualifying final against Port. Assuming:

* Brisbane win both their remaining matches (v Geel & WB - very likely)
* The winner of Syd/Coll also wins in R22 (v Melb and v Ess respectively - probable)
* Fremantle lose at least one remaining match (v Ess in Melb and v WC - probable)

It's looking good for a match at Footy Park in the first week of the finals. :D

I kinda like the 1st option.:D

I said at the beginning of the season that the 2 showdowns would be critical to where we finish on the ladder and so it proves.

Had we won the first one we would have probably been playing Port for minor premiers in the last game, assuming we beat the Roos- which we will.

We must beat them in the last showdown because if we do we guarantee second spot. Our opponent is likely to be Sydney who IMO will beat Collingwood and Melbourne in their last two. For some reason we handle Sydney very well and would have a great chance to go thru to the prelim.

On the other hand if all the above happened, that would mean that Collingwood or Brisbane would be likely to be the Power's opponent and with the pressure of past choking on them, Port might well lose which would give us a home prelim and a great passage to the grand final.

God, I hope we win the last 2.

I somehow doubt that Port will choke this time around. They have learned their lesson last year and to be honest they have not tried as hard this year like they did last year. I think they will get through to the GF but whether they win it or not remains to be seen.

Me and my mates were standing in the kiosk of Adelaide Oval watching it instead of the game out on the field. T'was a great game.

Oh, yeah, let us PLEASE beat Port!!

Tell me what'd happen in the second week if we lost the first week - where would we play (provided we get to top 4 of course)? Footy Park or MCG?.

OK, now we really are getting ahead of ourselves...

But if we do play a night final I hope it is against the Swans, otherwise there's no chance of me seeing it live here prime time.

I was actually thinking the other day, that instead of going 4th, maybe even dropping to 5th spot might be the best thing for us.

Disclaimer: This is just off-the-cuff speculation. I haven't taken a detailed look at all the rules governing the finals (for example, whether we end up being forced to play at the MCG by the MCC contract).

If we end up 5th, it means we will play Essendon, at AAMI. This is a great scenario for us because we routinely smash Essendon at home.

Meanwhile, the top four teams beat up on each other and the two losers - while they get a second chance - lose their right to home field advantage.... at least if the finals work out like they did last year (i.e. when we played Collingwood at the G).

This gives us potentially 2 home finals, one of which is a pretty sure win, IMHO, instead of playing a tough game against Port, Collingwood or Sydney at their home ground and then having to go to Melbourne or Brisbane and play another strong team on their home ground.

What do you guys think?

lacrow - the AFL has said that a non-Victorian team won't be robbed of a home semi final in the way that we were last year.

So if we finish bottom four and then win, our next final could be in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. That's not ideal.

I don't like the idea of aiming for fifth; there's too many advantages in finishing top four - i.e. double chance, direct route to preliminary - to just give that away.

We want to either finish fourth or second to ensure we have are at Footy Park in the first week of the finals, either playing against Port or hosting Brisbane or Collingwood:D

We dont want to finish third, could mean a trip to Brisbane or MCG to play Collingwood:(

We dont want to finish in the bottom four either too risky we want that double chance and also the chance to go straight through to the Preliminary final:D :D

This is now best case scenario. (Unless you think the fanciful sequence of events in Jars' thread is somehow possible.)

The last of the above criteria has been fulfilled.

We gotta beat Port two weeks in a row.

There goes any chance for second place and probably even a chance for top 4.

The selectors need horse whipping. The foundation of any good team is a stable defence. With Hart not available and eventually Edwards, the dropping of Bassett defies all logic. We paid the price for it too.

The selection of Mark Stevens and Welsh resuming given the state of the weather known all week proved disastrous. As did the selection of Stenglein who was obviously far from recovered from the flu as was Ladhams.

As Cornesy said on 5AA, we showed no respect for our opponent and got burnt.

The game plan was rubbish. We heard that the Crows were going to use the game to work out how to beat teams such as Port, collingwood and Brisbane. If that was it we wouldn't beat a mini-league side with that plan. I was convinced that there must have been goalposts all along the boundary because that's where we played all day. Chipping short to men under pressure and along the flanks. Absolute rubbish.

As for the players, they should go and have a look at themselves in the mirror - most of them gave a flat dishonest performance.
We played a team in 11th position who had nothing to play for but pride - and we didn't put in with so much to play for.

The scoring shots reflected the true status of the game and we were lucky not to be thrashed.

Definitely our worst performance of the year in every respect.

On second thought I might try and work out the permutations required for Adelaide to play a first or second week final in Sydney.
Well that's now looking unlikely since the ****ing Swans couldn't beat ****ing Collingwood.

Grrr... no good is coming out of this weekend. :(

That just about sums it perfectly & saves me the bother of saying my 2 cents worth,

Would have to be the worst team performance by the Crows for years & of all the players out there the only one i would not consider trading would be the captain,

Have faith Dave if the cards fall right next week & we drop down down down the Swans could be playing the 8th placed team in Sydney in week 1 of the finals,

& probably put us all out of our misery,
