Sure but Carey was averaging 23 for the year, which is the issue. Can't compare that to Rod Marsh 40 years ago.

Everyone forgets Healy when discussing batting wickey's.
He was as good as Marsh with the bat and the best keeper I have seen play for Australia.
Gilchrist was a batsman keeper really. Better than Healy as a bat, not quite as good behind the stumps. Both were excellent to Warne, Healy in my mind better.

We’ve done the same thing to our keepers post Gilchrist that we did to our spinners post Warne.
Haddin, Paine and now Carey were all fantastic wicket keepers who averaged 30+, yet all have had question marks in the media/with supporters over their spots throughout their careers.
Even the selectors got sucked in when we picked Wade who was a bang average keeper because his batting was slightly better at first class level.
