I would think if it was tougher opposition and a longer series, Green might not have walked back into the team.

But you have nothing to lose really in a 2 test series.

Says the guy who wants a 350 wicket taker executed if he doesn’t take a wicket every ball

All I want from Starc is consistency with the new pill, and bowling more near the stumps, he was very poor last night with this, and a few more Yorkers at the tail its what he's known for. It may be instructions or it may be him, not sure. If it's the first one it's beyond ridiculous. Best we've bowled all year to a number 11 was today, toes or head and get him out quick.

This is his third innings batting at 4 jim

Yep and he looked good in the first innings, two beautiful boundaries before getting a ball that pitched on middle and was a beauty, if you are lucky you MIGHT play and miss it. Poor shot this test he wouldn't have been happy with that one. Opportunity tomorrow and day 5 to get a good score as the ball gets softer

I

If his team mates could bloody catch would get in as bowler alone

Plus the bloke saves 20+ runs in the field. It isn’t just runs he’s in the side for yeah I’d want him getting a few more but I’m not concerned

Hilarious how every one is bitching about Green but can’t name an alternate.
Bring in a specialist opener, put Smith back to 4, and let Green and Marsh battle it out for the number 6 position.

There are few examples of players with poor FC records playing well at Test level and Marsh certainly isn't one of them.

A player with a worse record than Green is more likely to perform worse

The idea that shield form predicts test form hasn't been true for a while.

Go on name this specialist opener…better not be one of Bancroft, Harris or
renshaw who are all sub 30 cricketers

still feels like 2/60 as ugly as it was was big win for us under lights vs new ball, windies had lost 5 in their first innings after 25 overs yet batted 100 overs we lost 5 after 11 overs yet batted 53 feels like after maybe an hours play day 4 wont be much help for bowlers as ball be too soft.

if i was in their spot i would have felt like that new ball under lights for 16 overs needed 4 or at worst 3 to be in decent shape in game.

What I said is still true based on that data

Of the 36 batsman listed in the article who averaged less than 40 at Shield level, only 7 of them had a better record at Test level, and just 36% of them went on to average more than Green's current Test average.

Which shows that there are few examples of players with poor FC records playing well at Test level (especially based on your criteria of playing well at Test level).

When a player averaged more than 40, 65% of them averaged better than Green. So Green is performing below average given he averages more than 40 in the Shield

But how many other players are currently averaging more than 40 at Shield level over their career?

Matthew Wade
Peter Handscomb
Marcus Harris
Glenn Maxwell
Will Pucovski
Cameron Bancroft
Chris Green (9 matches)

That's the entire list of players not currently in the Test side, aside from a few with less than 5 matches to their name. Four of them average less than Green at Test level

There is no replacement. All of the players that might succeed we've tried and they have failed, most failed even harder than Green. Aside from Chris Green I guess.

So our options are to go back to failed players, or go to someone with a poor FC record, and based on historic data 64% of those players don't outperform Green

Literally one of the hottest days ever in Brisbane
You get one test a year. Surely there are enough cricket tragics up there.
Absolutely woeful crowd which ever way you spin it
This game deserves more and I really hoped they would pour through the gates for the last session

Only greater than one in three players with a below 40 shield average went on to average more than Green isn't the defence you seem to think it is...

Carey's a keeper so not actually a full-time bat. I wouldn't use Marsh's overall average as a guide.

Green is struggling, has struggled since he got in, much due to self-belief. No way you play him at 4 right now at Test level. It's either Green or Marsh as both are all-rounders, not both. On form Marsh is miles ahead. As far as Renshaw and Bancroft go they are openers, so a bad comparison there. Smith back to 4, even 5, and open with a regular opener.

If Pucovski was good to go and in form he'd be by far the first opner picked.

Green is a better bowler, bat and fieldsman than Marsh. Marsh has better recent form with the bat but cannot control his weight sufficiently to roll out his military mediums. He is also close to a liability in the field.

I mean credit must be paid for Nepo getting his average around 30. Stats wise his average when in the mid 20s was the worst of an experienced Number 6 in the history of Test cricket. So good on him for ridding himself as the worst number 6 in history.

I thought it was another day of engrossing Test cricket…. All power to the inexperienced Windies line up for making a real game of this.
