Good one👍 He also reminds me a bit of that Bob Ross the painting guy. 🖼

Charlie Comben in defence is on the cards according to Todd Viney in the Q&A
I guess it's easier to find your feet at the level in defence rather than at CHF. I hope he continues to practise goal kicking though just in case he is thrown up forward in some matches. I still remember Lachie Hansen 6-7 years in to the system missing set shots and then claiming that he had never practised goal kicking. He must have been a busy man.

Comben playing in defense makes sense. Runs straight at the ball, can mark and kick and has incredible courage. We did it with Taz, Hansen and MacKay and we can do it with Comben.

We also did it with Mick Martyn.

The best key defenders start as key forwards.

I seem to recall Horse Longmire spent some time down back after he did his knee.

He also played a season or two as a full back early doors on the likes of Lockett

Viney with a very interesting point during the Q&A. After Ratts more or less dismissed the idea of Charlie playing as a defender, (not emphatically, mind you) Viney stepped in and mentioned that it might be a prudent move for the simple fact that you can't go as hard at the contest as a key defender, meaning Charlie might be a bit safer back there than up forward, allowing him some continuity in his footy. I'm very much against the idea of him playing in defence long term but that's as good an argument in favour of the positional switch as you'll ever hear

If Charlie wants a career it is likely as a backman for this reason

I don't mind it. Jarrad Waite 2.0?

It means he's behind the bloke that will get smashed in the contest instead of him. Strike fear into anyone that gets in front of him.

while I've more faith in Kayne Turner getting a five year contract extension than I do of Comben staying fit.
I rate Charlie highly, he's a much better option than either Xerri or CCJ. Both of them aren't capable of impacting a contest.
Had Comben played against * we'd have won. No chance * are taking 15 uncontested marks in our forward 50 had Charlie been around.
Can he get fit, stay fit and play with self-awareness that is the question.

A few on here underrate what Charlie achieved this season, which I find a tad strange. When one considers how they rate certain under performing players.

( average)
10th - contested marks.
11th - tackles
11th - 1 percenters
3rd - score involvements ( that's huge)

So yeah let's hope aye.
