Player Profile

Lewis Melican is a young key defender with enormous promise. The Victorian was rookie-listed by the Sydney Swans in November 2014 and enjoyed a breakthrough 2017 season en route to winning the club’s Rising Star award. He kept St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt to just 10 possessions and one goal in Round 18 to claim an AFL Rising Star nomination. Melican has battled a number of injuries in his time in red and white but didn’t suffer any setbacks in 2019. Draft history: 2015 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 52.

It's to be an interesting situation for the Pelican in 2025.

If he keeps himself fit and injury-free, and continues the solid form he had in 2024, he's again going to get quite a few contract offers given the attraction of him being an OOC unrestricted free agent again this year.
I hope players like Melican are front and centre when we think about how much to throw at Warner

Crying screaming throwing up at the thought of the season Melican is about to have.

Tom Stewart will retire in embarrassment. Matthew Scarlett will never show his face in public again. Stephen Silvagni will launch a doping enquiry into the Swans out of sheer confusion. Alex Rance will be reduced to a punchline at comedy clubs.

Well, at least until Patrick Snell debuts. #Snelican.

Ha! #Snelican is a fantastic moniker. Love it. Just wait though until a young athletic number 20 joins them. Helps form a defensive triumvirate that turns the Swans into a brick wall for oppositions to score against for years to come ...

Sam Reid's STILL developing?!

No, of course it's not Sam.

Luke Ablett.
Totally off topic but another #20 in John Stevens is still a very keen Swans fan and was at the GF (so he might be less keen after that).

Still married to former Inside Sports cover girl etc Grace McClure who is now an Ironwoman including 2 finishes in the pinnacle of the sport, the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon ( 3.9km open water swim, 180km bike ride and just for good measure a full marathon run of 42km).
If you're not counting that is just under 230km. Best to set half a day aside.

Oh and just for good measure the family are millionaire co-owners of Greg Sewell forgings (yep the ex Essendon President and stalwart).

Bloody overachievers.

But I bet they've never taught their next door neighbour's kids to come over, open the fridge and get out a can of beer so I don't have to leave the comfy chair.
And all for 10c a can. 🏅
