Player Profile

Lewis Melican is a young key defender with enormous promise. The Victorian was rookie-listed by the Sydney Swans in November 2014 and enjoyed a breakthrough 2017 season en route to winning the club’s Rising Star award. Melican has battled a number of injuries in his time in red and white but didn’t suffer any setbacks in 2019. Draft history: 2015 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 52.

Great turnaround , sort of forget prior to getting back in the side, he had played in about a 50/50 side overall and been in some of our crappier sides in 2020 etc. Makes life difficult as a defender

This guys name deserves to be far closer to the top of the board, its been a remarkable turnaround for him. One thing that really stands out is the lack of mistakes he makes, just always seems to get his positioning right in the contest and then is able to dispose of the ball quickly and sensibly. Such a pivotal cog in our much improved defensive system this year.

I would die for Lewis Melican.

Love Meli.

I remember seeing him out at BISP running messages or water or whatever, while he was injured... always cheerful and seemingly happy to help out. Also remember feeling his pain, when returning from injury, as he struggled to find any semblance of form.

Fantastic to see him getting back to the form that had many of us excited back in '17. Might not be the purist's defender but it's hard not to enjoy his dare, a couple of times each game, when he does Meli things.

Great to see him come good. Seems a down to earth lad and well liked team member.

Due to his unfortunate run of injuries, for long spells it really was a case of Melican't.

These days, with a run of good health, it's more so a case of Meli (certainly) can.
