Yeah we wouldn’t want the guy who brokered a peace deal in the Middle East to get injured. This is one of your more thoughtful posts. Well done.
The guy who brokered.... LMAO.

The guy who.was so inept and unpopular his party discarded him for the worst csndidate in history. Now he's brokering peace deals a week out from being ex-president.
There's also this.

The way Blinken and Biden are trying to take credit for the ceasefire is ridiculous.

How does Biden (or Blinken) have any leverage to broker peace now, but not a year ago? His leverage was zero. He'd just approved a stack more bombs and money for Israel and couldn't stop it, or increase it if he wanted to.

The only thing that changed is that he was on his way out. Netanyahu didn't owe him any favours and wasn't doing it to be nice to a dying old man.

IF Biden did achieve a ceasefire now, it shows how useless he was for a year before, since the only thing which has changed in the past year is a lot more innocent deaths and more dead hostages on both sides.

The likely story is that Trump and Netanyahu came to an agreement whereby there's no war when Trump starts. The thing I don't know is what Bibi gets in return. I'm guessing it's taking West Bank land with US sanction, attacking Iran with US backing or both.

Blinken and Biden are trying to erase the stain of genocide from their legacy and it's failing miserably.

Biden is president. Ceasefire was agreed upon. Those are the facts. Don’t you want less wars? Shouldn’t you be thanking Biden?

therein lies the rub, Biden most likely a had line he would not cross. Trump, like Reagan, not so much. Just do it after the vows.

Bibi was getting everything and Biden was getting nothing out of their dealings. Bibi crossed any line Biden drew, so Biden just stopped drawing them, but kept giving money and weapons.

Supposedly both Trump and Biden have been thanked for the ceasefire in Bibi’s statement.

We will not find out who is responsible until we see if it's a success or not.

Looking forward to Trump claiming it was him, then saying it wasn't if things go bad.

The same people crowing about him achieving peace will switch to, it's all Biden's fault mid sentence.

Peace in the Middle East will never happen, let's be honest :$

It’s a bit more complex than that. Trump about to resume power isn’t the only thing that has changed.

As I understand it, the deal (ie the details of how it would unfold) was nutted out back in May. That was clearly under Biden’s watch.

Since then
  • a new (more moderate) party has joined the Israeli government, meaning Netanyahu isn’t dependent on the ultra-rightwing group who have (temporarily?) withdrawn their support;
  • and Hamas is more isolated, with many of its leaders killed, Hezbollah all but dismantled (for now) and Iran much weaker.

Clearly the ascension of Trump is a factor too, albeit we don’t know what has been promised. And I’m in no way downplaying the Biden administration’s unwillingness or inability to rein Israel in. Just pointing out its not one dimensional.

Right now I have little faith the deal will play out to its final act.
