Just a reminder, even if it hasn't come up for a few pages and y'all should know this stuff by now:

This thread is not about Covid, lockdowns, or vaccines. It is about Donald Trump. While Trump was in office during the pandemic and his response to Covid is relevant, there are pertinent threads for you to post your opinions on those things in.

It might also do with reminding a few that when you post on the SRP, you are responsible for backing up/verifying your claims to fact. Do not post conspiracy theories on this forum. We have an entire other forum for that.

Thanks all.

How is it an echo chamber when you are allowed to dribble this nonsense?

Hey, at least people work hard in salt mines, unlike you at forming your opinions.

European countries have elected conservative parties before, some have them in power now, others will do so again. This isn't a new phenomenon. Similar with Canada. Poland's most recent parliamentary election ended up with a more moderate pro-EU centre/right coalition, shifting from the further right Law and Justice party. France avoided a far-right government, with the centre/left admirably putting differences aside. Spain re-elected a centre-left government.

If you're cheering on the rise of far-right parties, then well, that's your own moral failing.

The fact that you think the UK's issues have begun under Starmer is hilariously ignorant, maybe selective amnesia at its finest. Similar if you think our economic issues began when Labor took office in 2022.
It’s going to be a better world get used to it.

“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,”
Whenever I go to the dealer to buy a new car I make sure to tell them that what they have is an “absolute necessity” for me.

Art of the deal.

Greenland, Denmark, and now Panama, like the rest of us that live in reality, probably sitting there wondering what Trump's currently smoking.

Whoever I go to a donut shop, I tell them to give me “whatever makes sense.”

Clearly he is building a bank of distractions and shiny controversy so shield him from immediate failures, challenges and issues such as mass deportations, the debt ceiling in March and real domestic issues.

In a way I feel sorry for him. He and his cronies will never have enough of anything. Enough money. Enough grievance. Enough dissatisfaction with their lot in life.

I wonder when was the last time they were stopped in their tracks by that earthy smell when a light rain starts to fall. Or when a glowing purple and orange sunset appears over the horizon. Or giggled and waved when a baby on a bus locks eyes with yours and grins from cheek to cheek. Felt that surge of nostalgia when you hear a big hit from your youth, even when it’s a song you never much liked at the time.

Or any of the other things that life is really all about.
Great post liz
Sadly , those wonderful sensations you describe are just not even noticed by malignant narcissists.
Even the self aggrandising and loyalty from his sycophants is never satisfying or enough. It’s a shocking personality disorder☹️

^ that's pretty much in keeping with the Christmas wishes of most world leaders though, yeah?

Are you telling me that if it did not include specific mention of "USA" you would have still known that was posted by Trump?

At first I thought it was posted by the pope. I'm sure Obama's Christmas wishes when POTUS would have read very similar.

Seriously though, I hope someone puts together a montage of Christmas wishes from world leaders. I'm tipping the Christmas sentiment of not too many other leaders would include the words:

Crooked
Deranged
Lunatic
Swamp
Witch Hunt
Evil
Sick
Thugs
Scam
Woke and Woke Military
Lunacy
Rot in hell
Destroy

^ I just don't associate these with Christmas, but maybe given time, and given MAGA have "saved Christmas", I will learn. I did recognise the "Merry Christmas" bit.

And those arseh*le conservatives wonder why the US is so divided. Just the whole tone coming from the GOP's leader and their leading propaganda voice has been like that Xmas message.
By chance a West Wing clip passed through my YT feed. I realized that a show like that (yes I know its biases and smarminess) countered the negativity and rage-baiting from the right. The tenor was usually positive and promoted some trust in institutions and at least the people in them. Again, I know the realities of politics and the varying levels of corruption throughout the system. But at least there was positive messaging for the masses. I don't think there has been another show, one so widely shown, since then. Newsroom, another from Sorkin is about the only one I can think of.
The divisiveness in society I think can be directly linked to the media that comes into each and every home. And those campaigners must somehow be held accountable.

The reality is that we rarely come across such toxic types in normal life, outside of BF and Hollywood scripts. The vast majority, within the local community, being unselfish and caring. Our local representatives (Councillor, MP) also have negligible impact on our lives - single parents in the 70s (Whitlam) and more recently the disabled (Gillard) being two obvious exceptions.

Serves no worthwhile purpose bringing your children up as cynics*, and weighed down by a belief that happiness cannot be achieved through ‘inner qualities’.

* negative attitudes towards work, and self fulfilment, within the home can lead to a sense of grievance becoming permanent - generation after generation. [A psychologically rich life is more associated with liberal traits - Oishi, Choi, Cha, Heintzelman, Buttrick, Westgate]

I challenge anyone to write a Christmas carol, featuring these words as part of the lyrics.
Maybe to the tune of "My Favourite Things".
