I have no axe to grind against drag queens reading stories to kids but I do have to ask, what is the great imperative?

(Maybe I’m a bit out of the loop. Do we have Story Time read by a judo instructor? By a chicken sexer? An alphorn player? Dental hygienist? An exponent of Calcio storico fiorentino? Helicopter customiser?)
Have any of those groups tried to start, or are likely to be interested in starting, a story hour?

I’m Progressive Party.

I suspect many of us in Australia would be quite ‘left’ by US standards.

lol at this: “Its potential leaders include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren or Julián Castro.”

The New York Times will absolutely refuse to acknowledge Bernie Sanders if it at all can.

I think they ignore established leaders, Trump was also not listed if you flip through the parties.

Where are we now in America in 2025?
A President elect that wants a white America where coloured people are either forced to take low paying jobs or who are deported.
And then there's women's rights.
Well, according to Fox, women need to know their place.

The US’ economy is predicated on low rights, exploitable labour in the form of undocumented migrants, who can’t speak out lest they be deported. We’ve seen similar things here with 7/11, where workers there were criminally underpaid because the student visa only allows them to work 20 hours a week, so for them to report their employer would see them getting deported.

Meanwhile, the west has turned developing countries into our own sweat shops and oppose the people living there from fundamentally improving their lives. Just as important as the right to come is the right to stay, and in both cases western capital has upended people’s lives. Unfortunately, too, the Democrats yielded to make a lot of this bipartisan, calling Trump’s bluff on border policy only for him to:

a) reject it
b) pivot even further right
c) overwhelmingly win amongst people voting on stricter borders

I thought by far the strongest part of the DNC was the section where people affected by abortion bans spoke about what they went through. At the time I thought it would be the key to the election, but no.

A lot of the attacks now are going to be focused on trans people, and I was impressed with the vote the other day that the Democrats have overwhelmingly not thrown in the towel on that issue yet, as many feared they would.

Im not sure I understand what you’re saying here. Are you referring to me personally, or are you just giving a theoretical case to illustrate the principles at play?

Actually, don’t worry. Don’t want to derail the thread. Let’s leave it there.
Both.

You're a good an intelligent person.
One of us is being tricked into fighting against inclusion. I'd like to find out if I'm wrong.

I'm happy to engage further. I'll repost this in one of the many 'anti-trans' threads.

I think it's on-topic as anti-LGBTQ is one MAGAts major platforms.

If the prosecution proceeded faster at Biden's request, then the accusations from Trump about his prosecution being politically motivated would be true.

Any Attorney General with a functioning brain might think that sorting out trying to overturn an election is important to do before the next election comes around, no?

Honestly that just spreads the gap, for me.

It's like blandly restating idioms like 'democracy dies in darkness'. And going on to point out that the guy smashing the lightbulbs is better, because 'at least it's obvious'.

Biden should die, because of Israel? That's your actual position?
The facilitation of empowering Israel extremism under Trump with his son in law, purely for profiteering... Not worth mentioning.

But Biden should be killed in 5 days, because of what he wasn't able to stop.
He was able to stop it. He chose not to. That's the main part. Regardless of who stopped it in the end, Biden funded, armed and facilitated genocide for over a year. Word Salad from the State Department spokesperson doesn't mean the State Department didn't know it was Genocide. They just knew they weren't allowed to say it.

Anyone who thinks Biden deserves credit for the ceasefire for a genocide he was funding, arming and providing UN Security Council cover for, is sycophantic as much as the MAGA Trumpists are. I'm surprised they can't see it.

The overwhelming fact is that the only thing which has changed for Israel to accept what they had previously rejected is that Trump will be President next week. If Biden were still President next week, the Genocide would be continuing.

I'm not convinced Trump has done it for the right reasons, though. Did Qatar/Saudi offer money to Trump and friends? Did Trump promise Qatar, Saudi and Israel that he'd support and lead a war on Iran if they agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza?

Giving Biden the credit for the ceasefire (of a war he was essentially waging) is like giving credit to Netanyahu.

Enough with the genocide rubbish. You don't even understand what it means.

The Nazis trying to exterminate the Jews is genocide.
The Hutu's trying to exterminate the Hutsi's in Rwanda is genocide.

War is not genocide.

Look I get it. You hate the Jewish race. Can you please stop infecting every thread with your poisonous garbage.

OK, 1,200 Jewish deaths vs at least 46,000 Gazan deaths is genocidish.

Strange that many, many groups have called it a Genocide.

Who to believe; MPMonkeys on BigFooty or;

Amnesty International

UN Special Committee

The Director of the Al-Shifa Hospital

Francesca Albanese

Among many others.

Oh and there's also that ICJ case investigating Israel for Genocide

Tough choice.

OK, 1,200 Jewish deaths vs at least 46,000 Gazan deaths is genocidish.

There's enough evidence to satisfy many nations and International prosecutors including phrases like:

"The Commission found that there were reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers “intentionally shot” children, knowing them to be children114, and they also “intentionally shot” health workers and journalists “despite seeing that they were clearly marked as such”115. It further found “reasonable grounds to believe” that Israeli snipers shot disabled demonstrators “intentionally, despite seeing that they had visible disabilities” and despite them not presenting an imminent threat116."

But I'm sure MPMonkeys knows better and that those protesting children and disabled people were really hospitals in disguise.

The sad reality is that Trump managed to end this and Biden couldn't. The reason for Trump exerting that pressure is the part we're yet to understand. But, for the time being, it's a good thing. (Even though Israel has launched a massive bombing campaign in advance of the ceasefire being enacted.)

Yes, but also two tier American justice system.

After the absolute chaos of J6 I suspect the appetite for pursuing a wealthy, connected, ex-POTUS with extremist supporters was pretty low. Despite 99.99% of the rest of the country being held to a standard where they would have well and truly been charged, tried and convicted for it.

I guess that's the problem. Most tyrannical overthrowing of democracies (or any Govt, for that matter) has happened by wealthy, connected people with extremist supporters. So they're absolutely the ones you need to stop.

Any AG can convict the slack-jawed yokels who texted each other about how great violently overthrowing the Govt is. If you're complacent about democracy, you're going to lose it. Tyranny is the natural state of the world thanks to selfishness, fear, greed and jealousy being such powerful and easily manipulated human emotions.

I mean the Greens and groups like them have been trying to have revolutions for decades now, but nobody notices because they aren't wealthy, connected or violent extremists (except every now and then some of them are and everybody acts shocked).

I agree Garland was a bit slow out of the blocks, and maybe didn't show the urgency some hoped he would. BUT

  • the SCOTUS helped Trump delay the proceedings with their nonsense presidential immunity decision
  • the US people had the chance to tell Trump what he did was unacceptable by not voting for him in the most recent election. Had they done so, not only would he not be back in power, he would likely face the full legal consequences of his actions four years ago.

We can see the recent result as indicating that insufficient of the US voting population think what Trump did was bad. A third of them voted for him, while another third didn't bother voting at all. Arguably we've seen a democratic pronouncement on the seriousness of what he did. That many of us can't fathom this doesn't change that.

The US senate also had a chance to say that Trump's actions were unacceptable, and just over half of them declined to do so.

When my kids were growing up, they loved Harry Potter and they used to organise Harry Potter days at school.
But Harry Potter uses magic and there were calls from a few people to have it banned.
Yes indeed. My daughter had a good deal of Harry Potter memorabilia, and when she moved out, I took some to a Christian Op Shop, who refused to take it, presumably on the grounds that it was irreligious magic (the Devil's work!).

You're kidding. The Greens have the most concentrated wealth of any party. Hence why they have most success in the inner suburban seats.
And their protests are easily the most violent compared to the other major parties. Its not even close.

The only poisonous garbage is statements like these.

The Israeli government ≠ all Jews.
Jews ≠ Israeli government.

Hope that clears that up for you.
The Israeli government is democratically elected by the Israeli people whose population is majority Jewish. Smearing the Israeli government is smearing the Jewish peoples.
I'm sick of anti Semite's hiding behind weasel words.

The greens have more inner suburban seats, because that's where more highly educated people are likely to live.
