This thread is not about Covid, lockdowns, or vaccines. It is about Donald Trump. While Trump was in office during the pandemic and his response to Covid is relevant, there are pertinent threads for you to post your opinions on those things in.

Agree with his analysis but find it hard to be as optimistic as he is.

So long as the oligarchs provide bread & circuses in the form of performative cruelty to their chosen “other” people largely don’t care enough to inform themselves.

Beyond that I believe we’re in the collapse stage of humanity. There are just too many people alive to support our current lifestyles. AI will take all the jobs. How can we possibly keep growing when basic housing is now unaffordable to most?

Pretty sure there will be a more serious pandemic soon or a war. The tech bros will ride it out in hiding. I’m sure some of them believe they are close to achieving immortality, preserving their brains on chips or some shit.

I think people who tend to consume news from liberal sources have been aware of the subcurrents to the Trump admin. It the larger group of voters who consume Fox and other conservative media that will never know what is going on, or will never be convinced of it in time. That's where the bread and circus will have the most damage.
Nothing like Reich's essay will reach them.

You see that with the whole Greenland thing. Greenland already is essentially run by the US, with military bases and what have you. But Trump has a 19th century concept of empire, and doesn’t seem to understand the incompatibility of this post-1945.

Trumps view of empire is very compatible with china and russias. The only major region that finds it incompatible is Europe. Unfortunately Europe is becoming the odd one out. Which is terrifying.

With migrants being deported and affecting the farming production , I suspect it’ll be a two prong attack with food becoming a scare resource with federal funding now affecting payments and food stamps

I think it’s very possible we will see major civil unrest this year and Trump will find out that the military won’t back him. The issue is he can call of the mid term elections if there is major civil unrest which may just be what he’s planning for.
