Is it just me or does the Aussies look like they are going through the motions just hoping for a wicket?

People might keep hailing Ponting's captaincy, but it is at times like this that he's continually found wanting

And on a batting track like this what captain wouldn't be found "wanting".

Remember, whenever Tugga didn't have McGrath and Warne to throw the ball to he looked utterly bereft of ideas and was accused of "letting the game drift".

In Ponting's brave new world he has Lee (very good, but no McGrath or Warne) and perhaps Clark, who'd looked useful today but not greatly threatening.

As for Hogg, well, we all know he's not really a test match spinner. Unfortunately our spinning reserves are very shallow. The options are Hogg, MacGill and McGain all in their mid 30's or worse.

IMHO Ponting's great achievement is to have kept winning for so long.

And with that a wicket. Laxman out to Lee.

Has nothing to do with the track. If I have class bowlers like McGrath, Warne and Lee and have the privilege to just keep throwing them the ball and they'd get us the breakthrough, that's not good captaincy.

The fact is, he let things drift, didn't bowl Clark, didn't try anything. Just bowl Lee. Okay, Lee was good enough to win him a breakthrough, but it doesn't excuse his captaincy

It was the same at the WACA, he gave India extra runs with his poor management of his full time and part time bowlers. That ultimately proved costly

WTF,

He bought Lee on, first over, he should have had Laxman out, it was perfect timing, its not Pontings fault Gilly dropped a sitter. It was perfect captaincy, realised that Lee could get reverse swing and he should have had a wicket in is first over.

The situation at the WACA was due to the poor overrate, but dont let the facts get in the way of a good old rant.

I think it does.

People on this forum are criticising his captaincy, with a perceived weak bowling attack, when India were 4/280 odd on a pitch where 500 is considered a par score.

It seems people here just expect us to roll teams for 200 and win every test by an innings

It was perfect bowling, wasn't perfect captaincy. Anyone can just bring their best bowlers back on and that'd get them wickets, even my mum can do that

The fact that you don't bowl arguably the most reliable bowler in Clark when those two are piling it on, and just let things drift along, isn't good captaincy.

And that is not the fault of the captain?

Let's not mention how he brought in one of the fastest bowlers in the world and relegated him to being a filler bowler

His management of his bowlers have been ordinary for most of this series. He has by far the best bowling resources to choose from in the world, so it covers up his mistakes most times, but they're still mistakes nonetheless

Poor over rate, caused by his captaincy and the team selection that he wanted because they badly misread the pitch
