I just want games in the kids bc our old timers are taking us nowhere. i don't care if we lose by more, but at least we are investing in the future. Yze is a moron starting Ross as sub.
Probably a bit harsh on Yze, as he would be taking advice from other coaches until he see's the players first hand in games for the 4 points. If he is still doing it towards the end of the season, then I think you will have a fair point. I also think the kids need to earn there spot through the VFL & hopefully Yze will reward the effort, which I think was Hardwicks issue in the last few years, where he had his favorites & wasn't rewarding the guys in the VFL for there good games.

It’s a basically a completely new coaching group and they failed to do their homework in the practice games. I reckon if JGTI was fit Ross wouldn’t have played.

I agree with the new coaches, but we still had Lambert, Truck & Teague who would have had a big say in the initial team. Yze will hopefully learn from this. Also I am a huge fan of Ross from his first season, where he was a ready made inside mid, until Hardwick tried to change his game & took weight off him. Ross should be a starter every game in my eyes. He is a pure inside mid & should be allowed to show his wares.

Totally agree...Hardwick changed this young inside mid into whatever...simply because Hardwick still had a gun midfield...really bad management in hindsight! Really surprised this guy hasn't asked for a transfer!

Strange he started as the sub.
Strange bordering on idiotic. This guy should be starting mid or wing. We're a better team with him on the field, simple as that.

I'm hoping Yze was trying to see if a different combo would work without Ross. The fact he brought him into the action gives me some optimism that it will be the last time that Ross doesn't start.

I'm not holding my breath though.

I think he’s our most reliable to complete the pass under pressure, other players seemed to hit the go button when he came on and had the ball.
Strange he started as the sub.

Possibly to do with his late start to the pre-season, just easing him into it, especially with the 5 day break coming.

There is something we are missing with Ross that the coaches are seeing. Of wingers in 2023 I can only find about 5 in the AFL with higher average player ratings.

1 Nick Martin 12.37
2 Mason Wood 12.23
= 3 Josh Daicos 11.20
= 3 Hugh McLuggage 11.20
5 Karl Amon 10.95
6 Jack Ross 10.91

below him were:

Max Holmes 10.77
Blake Acres 10.64
Steele Sidebottom 10.12
Justin McInerney 9.75
Jake Soligo 9.44
Brandon Ellis 9.03
Ed Langdon 8.77
Lachie Hunter 8.48
Harry Morrison 8.24
Bailey Williams 7.67
Sam Durham 7.65
Jaspa Fletcher 7.49
Liam Henry 7.34
Lachie Scholl 7.03
Andrew Gaff 6.75
Xavier Duursma 6.46
Kamdyn McIntosh 6.25(finished ahead of Ross in our B & F)
Dylan Stephens 5.92
Oliver Hollands 5.92
Oscar Baker 5.19

So there has clearly been something McIntosh is doing that Ross is not doing that our coaches want our wingers to do.

McIntosh is 2nd among the wing cohort for spoils per game with 1.3. Mason Wood is 1st 2.0 per game. But Ross is still quite high for this cohort at 0.8 per game. Pressure acts are similar around 12.5 both Ross and McIntosh, and this is below the better wingers who are anything from about 13-16 range. McIntosh gets to slightly more defensive 1 v 1's per game and has slightly more tackles.

I suspect Ross is focussing on Ross getting the ball more than the coaches would prefer.

Ross wouldn't have even been named if Graham was fit so wouldn't have even seen him come on as sub. Almost certain of that.

Selection has been a problem at the club for a long time. And it obviously wasn't just a Dimma problem. Ross was not brought on until the final quarter in dress rehearsal vs Pies.

Favouritism needs to stop with guys like McIntosh, Pickett etc and don't get me started on playing Dow over Ross. Throw Graham in that mix too who is slow as a treacle and gets gifted games back into the side off the back of long term injuries and no form.

Ross played a lot last year and him being sub while the team spuds it up is in his favour.
