Very early to call but wouldn’t be shocked if he becomes our captain one dayA shining light in a dark dark time
No, when he gets the ball he is able to stand up in pressure situations and either evade the pressure or take on the tackler and still distribute well, (apart from the first goal to Bont.) Not many of our players can do that.It concerns me how he’s come good when the team isn’t applying that high pressure style anymore
Is he just standing out because the others around him have dropped off?

if he can get out of rehab and get a decent preseasonThis is Ross’s year! No excuses ….. I look forward to seeing him rise and surprise a few people
Reckon what he showed in 2023 indicates he is AFL standard and can be a very valuable player. He knows it now and the new coach can use a flexible and solid player. This is Ross’s year! No excuses ….. I look forward to seeing him rise and surprise a few people
He looked set to break out in 24 but yeh the preseason interruption will not help that. We might need to be patient again with him, but he's worth keeping on. He's a solid player if not a star, and he's a good meat and potatos player on a list, that 5th-6th midfielder within your best 25.I think Ross might struggle a bit, not because he can't play, but because he hasn't been played as a mid and it is not an easy spot to break into. Hopper, Taranto and Prestia are pencilled in, Dow should be given a really good crack because he gives us zip around the pack which Ross doesn't help with.
He can play half forward, so that's a help as he can swap with Martin and Bolton. Is he a wingman, he did well there considering he is not really one. Let's hope his rehab allows straight line running because he will really need top fitness.
I've been a Ross backer, but given he is in rehab, he will be starting behind the 8 ball.
Read that he has a toe injury but not far away, being cautious perhaps (after last season.)He looked set to break out in 24 but yeh the preseason interruption will not help that. All those positions need depth right, the chances we have a fully fit list all season is zero, so I would say there'll be spots across the midfield, wing, and sub through the year. If Ross can play 15-20 games in 2024 given his interrupted preseason that'd be a good year.Read that he has a toe injury but not far away, being cautious perhaps (after last season.)
The issue with Ross is, what is his position after 5 years. He is a mid for me, but he is a bit similar to our other mids so he is up against it there. Prestia looks pretty determined to get back to his old self. It might be as you say a patience game, again. McAuliffe might surprise also. I would probably prefer Ross over Mac and Pickett on the wing, but maybe we have more exciting prospects like Brown and Banks.
Agree, but it would be nice to see him in the side every week, he has earned it. The last two seasons he was played late in the year at half forward and was very good. To the wing and much the same. But he is a centre mid essentially but can't get a gig in there. Perhaps he could play half forward, midfield like Bolton and Martin, with the bonus of running through the wing. Maybe, but by that strange we will need to also see if Dow, Sonsie or McAuiff are better options as full time mids or whoever else we might pick upReckon he'd be a very good inside mid but Dimma didn't give him a go there after his first handful of games before he did his ankle. Now there's no spot for him in the guts it's probably wing or nothing which is a bit of a shame because the time he's spent on the wing would've only helped him become a nicely balanced full time midfielder. Has all the tools, as they say.
Maybe wing for another year or two then take over from Prestia in the midfield?
Played some very good football at half forward end of 22, so could also rotate through the middle and hf like Dusty and Shai. That and the wing may work. Really interesting to see which way he goes, steps up again, or doesn't.Reckon he'd be a very good inside mid but Dimma didn't give him a go there after his first handful of games before he did his ankle. He traded Higgins pretty quickly and kept the others though.....Jeez Ross had an impressive debut...
So did Cumbers...
So did Higgins...
But Dimma decided to persevere with only Higgins..
Yeah, but I'm expecting Jack Graham to play that role this year.Played some very good football at half forward end of 22, so could also rotate through the middle and hf like Dusty and Shai. That and the wing may work. Really interesting to see which way he goes, steps up again, or doesn't.
Might be a shootout. Ross's game vs Brisbane at half forward was probably better than any game I can remember from Graham at half forward. 23 disposals and 8 marks and a shed load of score/goal involvements.Yeah, but I'm expecting Jack Graham to play that role this year.
