Yes he did. And it wasn’t until about 24 hours before the draft that it started to look like there was a chance Hobbs would slide to us. Prior to that, we were into Sinn.

Well of course he's going to say that. If we ended up with Sinn, that was our plan the whole time. Either outcome would have been perfectly predicted by Dodoro. Pretty sure he said we always wanted Reid at 9 despite trying to trade that pick out.

I don’t think he’s anywhere near as dishonest as what you’re portraying. I think it’s entirely credible we rated Hobbs higher than Sinn. Tigers and Hawks were quite keen on Hobbs in the top 10 and clubs made offers for our pick 13 specifically to take Hobbs. Sinn also went one pick ahead of Hobbs so it’s not crazy we rated the guy we took at 13 ahead of the guy taken with 12.

Re Reid. We tried to trade a pick to the pies for their F1 (which ended up as pick 2 in 2021). How does that mean we didn’t rate Reid at 9? I recall a video of our drafting team from before the draft (released post draft) stating that Reid shouldn’t get past pick 6 given his quality.

I wouldn't say dishonest per se, but he's definitely a spin doctor, and it's always in his favour. Clearly Port thought we were going to go with Sinn too which is why they leapfrogged us at the deathknock. Clubs generally have good intel on one another so I'm putting 2 and 2 together a bit here.

I didn't say we didn't rate Reid at 9. We did try to trade that pick with other clubs (iirc tried to trade up to GC to get Hollands too) and then settled on Reid. So it wasn't one of our first choices, basically.

In the video I saw, another member of list management posed the question to Dodoro and said something like "Are we happy with Reid at pick 9?" and Dodoro responds "Yeah, that was always the plan wasn't it?". Felt like classic spin to me knowing that it literally wasn't the plan the whole time.

Anyway, this isn't really about Hobbs so moving on...

We were picking Hobbs regardless, the whole thing is featured in the AFL draft documentary where they have the cameras in our room during the night and we were hoping with each pick Hobbs would continue to slide.
