this kid is soooo good. The full package. Tough, skilful, competitive with a good dose of campaigner in him, the works. Absolute jet
Sometimes fate does you one solid.

Port jump us for Sinn & Hobbs slips back to our pick.
Outside Daicos (who was F/S), not a kid i'd give up Hobbs for in that draft.

just had a look and I have to say, I basically agree with you. Rachele, probably, but after Sunday's game it's easy to have an acute case of recency bias!

Was thinking about this. Daicos is pretty obviously the star of the draft. But other than that, maybe Amiss or JHF have performed as well as Hobbs.

The real blessing is that Richmond seemingly getting a little greedy and not picking the player they were linked with most often, but picking Gibcus first and then trying to trade back in and get Gobber as well.

If you believe Twomey they offered a package of 17 and 28 first to the Saints, then to the Eagles and then to us. Saints blew them off and picked NWM, Eagles blew them off and did the Sinn deal with Port and then we blew them off and picked Hobbs.

I wonder if they still trade for both Taranto and Hopper if they drafted Hobbs?
Gibcus still looks the good though it must be said…

He does, certainly no doubting that.

Dare I say, a bit of a sliding doors moment

Ben Hobbs was the odd one out of Essendon’s midfield at the start of this season.

The 19-year-old played 17 games in his debut year, but did not add to that tally in the opening five rounds of 2023. He suffered a calf setback in February, yet that wasn’t the only reason for his absence at AFL level.

Though Hobbs was putting up video game numbers in the VFL, where he was clearly a class above, the problem, at least for him, was that Essendon won four of their first five games. Off-season recruit Will Setterfield had grabbed his chance as part of an in-form on-ball unit alongside new captain Zach Merrett, Darcy Parish and a resurgent Dylan Shiel.

There was a bit of extra noise at the time because Hobbs was out of contract at season’s end, with the overwhelming majority of his peers at the top end of his draft class having already inked an extension.

It all seems so trivial three months down the track.

Love me some Hobbs but on pure ability you take JHF.

Character is a different issue.
On ability yes, I was just talking about AFL performance though. Still, Hobbs looks bloody good

This is what I would say.

Barely wastes the ball. And that little candy he sold before his goal was silk.
It feels like something clicked for him in this game in terms of navigating the congestion. Not sure exactly without checking, but it seemed like there were a lot of little sell-and-moves if I can call them that. Really slick gives out of there or runs out of there. The goal is a good example.

Yeah I've just been going through some of the posts here; what a stroke of luck! It's about time the cards fell our way. Our last three drafts are starting to look really solid. We just need some success with talls.
Perkins and Hobbs are proving great value comparitively
Tsatas' VFL form has been awesome too.
If we can get Cox going, even if Reid's injuries curtail him that's a good few years of drafting. Helped by Martin & Duz, and i'll throw Baldwin and Mass in there as i'm a fan of both
