Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [C7/J.Ralph] LDU declares he wants to be a NM player for life; inspired by Larkey/Sheez/Jy signing - pay the man

He had an almost game against Carltank.
So many times, he missed the clearance bursting run by a ****teenth, fumbled slightly, or was a half yard short of a tackle.

I'm still astonished how he didn't bury that tackle inside d50. He had him dead.

Yeah he's not far from ripping some games apart.

What i really liked about his game on the weekend, was LDU was bustin arse trying to lift us in that 3rd quarter. He is deadset growing into a leader if he/ others on here like it or not.

Most important player on our list to Sheez, Wardlaw & McKercher.

Absolutely taking the pressure off the young guys in the midfield until they force coaches to prioritise them instead.

Once coaches have to choose between minimising one of LDU, Sheez or Wardlaw it's gonna be so over for the rest of the comp.

Serious question:

Is there an issue with LDU’s kicking efficiency?

Seems to be torching the ball a fair bit this season.

Do the stats support that?
Down around 3% on disposal efficiency compared to 2023 and 2022.

That’s as an overall not specific to kicking.

His field kicking and kicking away from the stoppages is fine, but when he kicking inside forward 50 he can’t hit a target to save himself.

He torched at least 4 inside 50’s today due to poor decision making and/or execution. It’s frustrating as all ****.

the difficulty when weighing up thing is always, versus what? the broadcasters give us such shit vision and the "media" give us such shit breakdowns, our team is in melb every second half moon and on free to air tv so rare that it's impossible to get a sample size large enough to compare like to like.

And then, no and then, yes, and then, he could be torching it up like a good old boy in the bayou but the argument could still be made that the meters gained are worth it..You could say that, a better user wouldn't have had the same opportunities to dispose by foot as LDU the congestion buster, or that it's not the kick but that the players fwd of him don't get a chance to provide great options due to his awesomely fast and unexpected breakaways, or that faced with shit long options by foot he still has to kick because none of his flat footed followers have kept up with him to be handball options. It's a shitshow of assumptions and judgements.

My irrefutable truth, he's a shit kick. Too many junior coaches excused his useage. needed a good belt over the ear

It annoys me to no end that he doesn't pull the trigger from 50 out.

Just kick the flipping goal, Luke!

Always seems in two minds, goal or hit a player up - then somehow manages to go some sort of inbetween distance that looks on target but stops short and is marked easily by the opposition defenders.

Yep. The coaches need to tell him to have a shot whenever he’s in range. Reminds me a bit of Wells in that he’s too unselfish
Spot on. I remember whinging about Wellsy for the same thing. It's like they actively avoided having a ping, where if they kick the goal, it's a massive team lifter...

All our mids should have a licence unless there is a lead that can't be refused.

It’s fine line though because one of Wells’ biggest strengths was bringing other players into the game.

In clarkson's words, lacking polish.

We've had pretty good quart and half but with poor polish had nothing to show by half time.

As the team tires, geelong kick away to 2 goal lead then followed up with a bad 5 minutes when geelong got the lead to about 40 points and stayed there.

The whole team needs 2 more pre-seasons to get the polish right so when we are on a roll, we get to a 30 pt lead.

Wells was so much a better kick than LDU it's not funny. LDU needs to have a ping at the goals because based on current evidence he's more likely to kick the goal than hit up a teammate inside 50.

The goal is a much more forgiving target. Liam Anthony and Sam Gibson were noted ball butchers who never seemed to miss a goal on the run.

Yep. Fair. On the run essentially directly in front the reality is that a player that can easily make the distance should be taking the shot unless they have an absolute lay up deliery with no pressure.

LDU has landed a couple of goals but reckon he has 30+/3+ games in him yet.

Feel we're that step away as a teamfrom the floodgates opening for him.
Even if he only ever had a ping from 50, he would have more of a chance at producing a score than either banging or finessing the ball into our forward 50. And
