You guys are great loved the Atmosphere at AAMi when you come down, I was in the South End there was great banter and awesome chanting. Can't wait for it again.

In response to the match on the 15th of Feb being rescheduled. It was pushed forward rather then back due to both teams potentially participating in the ACL well in the case of WSW defiantly.

The match is on Tuesday the 14th only three weeks after we play you guys at AAMI the first time.
Still should get a big crowd being school holidays and most people will still be on holidays too.

Through I suspect most WSW fans won't attend both so close to each other plus being a weekday.
That seemed to be overall consensus. It's great for the game when we can get the fans travelling! The Victory v Wanderers game at AAMI last year was absolutely superb for atmosphere :thumbsu: Apart from some of your idiot supporters (see the poster above) I actually don't mind the Victory. Much better than the blue shite we have up here ;)

I did forget about the ACL actually, that's a good point. It seems like most fans are planning on going to the weekend game rather than midweek. Bit of a shame but there doesn't seem like their is a lot they can do.

Week 1 crowds

Sydney v Newcastle - SFS 20,103
Central Coast v Western Sydney - Bluetongue Stadium 17,134
Victory v Melbourne - Docklands 45,202
Wellington v Brisbane - Westpac Stadium 8,239
Adelaide v Perth - Hindmarsh Stadium 10,320

A record for a single weekend of the A-League :thumbsu:

Very healthy figures! Great for the game - a bit of good news from an otherwise pretty bleak weekend for the game in Australia :thumbsu:

No. Why? You'd probably halve the crowds as there isn't much public transport or parking out that way.

Saw on the fixture that you're playing a game there this season. Concert or something i'm guessing?

But thought with the fact that you train there and the ground has a nice capacity etc.. it might work better then an empty Suncorp.

I see with the location issue. Haven't been to Brisbane since i was 15 myself.. so a bit unaware of where everything is based..

Week 2 Crowds:

Adelaide v Victory - Hindmarsh Stadium 16,504

Melbourne v Central Coast - AAMI Park 8,734
(according to the Murdoch rags - couldn't find anything on the official A-League site)

Brisbane v Sydney - Lang Park 21,841
(must admit being at the game the figures seem a bit dodgy - looked like 17-18k at most - but again I thought the same at a Broncos game I went to earlier this year so maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me)

Newcastle v Perth - Hunter Stadium 12,383

Western Sydney v Wellington - Parramatta Stadium 16,294

75,756 all up for this weekend's fixtures.

Your eyes probably weren't playing tricks. Grounds consistently add to crowd figures. The SFS do it almost every week for the A league and the Waratahs.

great result for Newcastle.

can someone care to elaborate what is the point of Heart? the champions come to town and it's a 4 digit figure.

what is the difference between victory and heart apart from red as opposed to blue, and maybe a niche bunch of supporters who just want to be a little bit different to the rest in the city.

there is no real difference in base of identity for support of two clubs down there. at least WS & SYD have a clear differentiation of region. in contrast, MV & MH play at the same venue and don't have any specific regional ties or political or religious ideology to differentiate the two.

some may say it works fine in the AFL, but support in that comp was initially based on such differences for nearly a century before ground rationalisation and la nouvelle vague of homogenisation across all clubs (perhaps ex Bulldogs) became the norm down there.

for a new club in a town with a team that has had a first mover advantage and success to build upon, it really gives them nothing to hang off and really just makes them a nowhere club IMO.

Another set of healthy attendances on the balance of things. Heart is a bit concerning though - was a beautiful day on Saturday here in Melbourne. Being in Melbourne against a quality side, you'd expect at least to get 10,000.

I would probably support them (certainly over Victory) so I could see more games in person but I can't bear the thought of supporting a red and white striped team haha. At least by having 2 Melbourne teams, Jets need to visit a few times a season :D

- the success (attendance wise) of melbourne victory in the early years, gave the idea to the ffa that throwing another team in melbourne was what should be done
- ffa wanted a local derby
- ffa wanted more teams for wc bid/acl
- ffa wanted more matches for tv deal

yeah that's all i can think of

I really think future Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory games should be held at Adelaide Oval. Not the same type of close atmosphere but this match could easily get close to 25k

If anything I thought the crowd looked bigger than 22k EL...The bottom tier fits 30k and two sides were full and the other two looked 3/4 full...plus plenty in the 2nd tier and corporates...pretty sure it was an accurate figure.

I highly doubt the bottom tier can fit more than the top two tiers combined. The second tier looked completely empty besides the Suncorp Stadium members area and corporates while the third tier was empty.

Yeah my bad 30k was wrong...it's more like 24k I think...I'm sure it can be found somewhere for someone bothered enough to look :) Even so, I didn't think the crowd was exaggerated ... the 2nd tier on the opposite side to the corporates had quite a few in it and the bottom tier would have had 18 or 19k i reckon...anyway it was a good crowd, plenty of away support, pretty good atmosphere and a great result...hopefully most come back for the Heart game. :thumbsu:

The new AAMI Park was also a huge factor in creating a second Melbourne team. Considering Heart membership numbers this year are higher than that of Adelaide, Mariners, Wellington and Perth whilst we finished second last in the previous season, I see plenty of benefits and future success from a second Melbourne team.

Heart should grow.I'm a Victory member.
Provides a tremendous atmosphere the Derby.
But its MV fans that make up the vast majority of the crowds in the derbies. Only way Heart can grow is to be an on field powerhouse and that looks very unlikely.

I went allong to the Heart game on Saturday and i thought the crowd was a dissapointment, especially considering that the crowd figure of 8.7k also included the 2,000 that attended the vpl grand final in the early curtain raiser a few hours earlier, so basically 6 and a half for the Heart game against the reigning champions in the most perfect conditions you can get...not good enough really.

So what? All that matters is the Heart play a huge role in creating one of the consistently best attended fixtures in the league.

Melbourne Heart has brought the game to more people in Melbourne, people like myself who never went to a Victory game. Yeah, the numbers aren't setting the league on fire, but they're probably more than any other club in the country could get given the poor performances. Getting rid of the club would just create ~20k odd people who will never attend another A-league game.

And Phoenix crowds (and performances) are far more abysmal but no one bats an eyelid.

Source that they included the VPL crowd? Either way, about half of them were Heart fans and I doubt there were 2k there from what I saw.

I'm pretty confident our crowd numbers will grow to a sustainable level if we have a couple of good seasons. Just need to get a decent coach to achieve that.
