I'm comfortable with the football club on a lot of fronts
Talent leaving , the two Ellis's , Miles , Lloyd, Butler , Higgins
pretty much all those guys left with the blessing of most here and the Club
We had Stack & CCJ do the kebab thing and get caught big time , at the time they looked like they had lost their chances of playing finals CCJ injury and Stack form and they did what young guys do and there were plenty of whispers that there were many other breaches that were getting swept under the carpet
and we've seen it with NRL and even our leading jockeys
I'm not seeing a club that is failing to develop player talent and control player behaviour
Talent not progressing fast enough - I think we'd all like Chol . RCD , Dow , Miller etc to have progressed quicker
and for the likes of Egg & Naish to have made the calls earlier , suffice to say I believe our system has got the most out of them , they've reached their ceiling
as for RCD & Dow , I see teenage faces and bodies , they are slower in their physical maturity , their football is progressing
Miller has lost a lot of time due to injury remember back to the McGuane , Moore & Dan Jackson days , those guys always injured , we howled here but the club persisted and I think shown to be right in their judgement , similar with Grimmes & Astbury , now it looks similar for Miller
I don't think this is a major weak point
Coaches leaving - again it just seemed to be a natural progression , they seem to leave on really good terms
Injury management and prevention - I'm happy we have a great setup, guys are returning from serious injury in really good shape , we dont seem to have guys going down with soft tissue injuries that were preventable
Off field stability - the last 7-8 years must be the most stable well run the club has ever been , for so long we would be sacking coaches , having board spills and its like thats a distant memory
so now we find ourselves at the end of a rough season , finished 12th and our frustration showed
the prognosis for our injured players looks good , many rejoining training in the last couple of weeks
we have an aging list but have 4 picks under 30 in this years draft
we appear to have space under the cap if a good midfielder is available
there are 3 clubs with highly rated father son picks this year and are in need of points
there are a handful of clubs with salary cap pressure and will be looking to move on 1 or 2 capable players
and it seems to come about from paying overs for some and back ending contracts etc , like getting a new credit card to payoff the first one
no talk of that stuff happening at Punt Rd
our arch enemies from yester year Blues & Pies have really got them selves in a right royal mess , let go coaches , have serious list management issues
and a sizeable list of clubs have traded out their draft picks for this year (and think Geelong at the top of the list, who really needs to address list age )
they haven't found a rythm with trading picks and future picks and can plunge their clubs into years of trouble on the back of it
we might not be automatic favs for next years premiership
but that doesn't mean we've lost our way or are in crisis
I think we are in a good position to transition from our 2019/2020 premierships players to a new top 22 that will be finals competitive in the next 1-3 years
hopefully with a healthy happy Dusty giving us more WOW moments
will that mean more premierships ?
don't know , let watch and find out
