are all the beder boys staying on in 2009??

And can anyone stand up to challenge them??? By years end it seemed a little easy for the boys of mentone.

I think they'll need the year to find their feet and will finish 7th or 8th. They've been in B long enough to be comfortable and don't have the momentum and drive that St Bedes brought last year. On the other hand I think they are better than Blacks were last year so should avoid the dreaded yoyo effect.

Looks like Scotch & Collegians will have the most Ex-AFL players.

Some Ex-AFL Players are: Nathan Brown (Scotch) James Byrne (Scotch) Nick Stone (Collegians) Damian Adkins (Collegians) Fergus Watts (Collegians) Nick Ries (Collegians) Tim Fleming (Xavs) Adam Chatfield (Xavs)

Rumored to be playing: Paul Licuria (Scotch) Luke Brennan (Scotch) David Spriggs (Brighton)

Unsure: Simon Arnott (Collegians)

B Grade may have just as many Ex-AFL as A Grade with Old Camberwell, Blacks & Trinity fielding some big names.

Any others?

Ormond Matt Robbins
Old Camberwell Julian Rowe, Cam Howart, Michael Rix, rumoured Nick Holland, Ben Holland,Kerin Mcguinness
St Kevins Josh Mahoney.
Blacks, no idea

anyone brave enough to make full ladder predictions? including relegations and grand finalists?

heard a rumour as well that de la have lost their full forward (who is arguably the best u/23 yr old in the comp) matthew moore to casey... any truth?

Any chance OEG for the finals????

OEG will make finals!

I think they have 3rd or 4th spot written all over them. They are physically ready and have less external pressure on them to be the bench mark of their grade.
Also, no doubt have made some additions to their side.

they're not better than collegians, bedes, xavs, brighton and scotch.. maybe on par with ivanhoe and uni blues but i'd still rank those two above OEG.. possibly a chance for 4th spot but i'd say they're an outsider for sure..

they are not as good as st bedes were the year they came up ... i'd put them in for 6th... they'll stay infront of de la and marc but won't be contenders... making up the numbers really..

Think A grade will be very even this year. Silly to be saying Marcellin will go 1-17, they have a good young list, and have a great senior coach in Coxy. Have the momentum of winning B grade flag behind them, just can't believe people are writing them off already.

OEG have a tricky draw early playing St Bedes, Xavs, Brighton and Old Scotch in the first 4 games. They could be 0-4 early on, so need to be up and running early.

There will be no easy games in A grade next yr, feel that it could be one of the tightest finishes in a long time.

Well fair enough but it doesn't get much tighter than last year. As 'three year veteran Mark Ainley' explains in the following article...

But it really was tight last year. The worst team (Blacks) beat old Xavs and drew with Scotch and the Premiers could have very easily missed out on the finals.

Well spotted JG Hornet. I believe down at beach road they have reduced the requirement to become a veteran down to two years. This allows them to put only half Ainleys salary for the year into the salary cap.

I believe A sec will be in groups those that can win the flag SBMT, OB, OS, OX and then the middle runners who can on their day bet te top four but are cleary not good enough Coll, OI, UB,. Maybe OE and then the shit kickers Marc and Dell OE might be down there aswell.

OB vs OS grand final

Interesting, OEG draw the the guns, 123&4.

HOw is the draw compiled? Do they pull the teams out of a hat.
I wonder?

Fair to say that the powers to be are making it as difficult as possible for OEG to make an impact in there first year in A grade. Premiers first round away then 3 of last years top 4 in the following 3 rounds.

Could just be coincidence though....
