HAHAHAH this is some of the greatest bullshit I have read in this tip.

The AFL and AFLPA won't do sh*t about it. In fact the AFL would more likely scrutinise how Carlton have somehow pulled a swifty two years in a row and got highly rated players for free don't you think?

Perhaps the trend is that Carlton woo players offering them big money and long contracts and then don't want to pay the price to recruit them.

Different ways to polish a turd aren't there champ.
If the AFL was deciding what you get for Saad it would be pick 20-21 based on the contract.

Pretty obvious who is asking for an unreasonable trade

Stuff them. Let him nominate for the draft, use pick 7 on him and be done with it. We get our man. Essendon miss out on everything and their reputation is even further destroyed. Zero chance anyone uses a pick prior to that on him.

Just proves how ridiculous the requests are. Dodo has no power here, none.
On draft night someone will want a player at pick 7. We can then downgrade on the night. Remember GC wouldn’t trade last years first for a downgrade with Martin but on draft night they did exactly that. GC have Carlton 17 and 22 for 11. Points massively in our favour. GC desperate for a player at that spot last year and similar will occur this year. If the equivalent happens this year. It’ll be 7 for 13 and 18. We pick a kid at 13 and Saad at 18. Essendon get **** all for being pricks.

In the end who cares if we give up pick 7 for him.

I'd rather a quality known commodity than some unknown that won't contribute much for a couple of years anyway(if they even turn out any good anyway).

Yep, he is such a selfish player who doesn't want to play a role for the team, that we are only willing to trade him for a contracted young gun OR we will pick him back up in the PSD at an inflated contract offer we didn't match in the first place...

I don't mind Essendon asking for a high price, that's their right especially in initial discussions, just don't give us this rubbish about "building a culture around team players" when you clearly want to keep him even at a high cost.

Sets a bad precedent for future trades. What do you think the next club would ask for if we were after a gun mid? X3 first round picks?

Good clubs work out deals that work for both parties.

Dodo clearly thinks this time of year is about him. Im surprised the board don't tell him to pull his head in...but then again perhaps their half the problem hence the player exodus and lack of on field success of late

How much have Carlton put on the table for Saad?... does anyone know the exact figure?.. is it in the realm of $600-700k a season?.

If its around that then its a bit hard for Carlton to argue against paying up..

Those Carlton fans suggesting pick 7 should be split so they can get a pick in the teens to give up for Saad need to remember a pick in the teens in this years draft will probably end up being very late teens after compo/nga’s etc..

Pick 7 could drift out to 9-10..

Carlton have chased Saads services here.. now they are committed they need to pay up. Pick 7 sounds about right really..

If he were a free agent the contract would result in band 2 or 3 compensation regardless of any anticipated bidding. Thats not even a first round pick.

Even if he were contracted a top 10 pick would be unjustifiable in a straight swap.

You should just go back to the Brad Crouch thread.

So why does the pre-season draft exist?
I don't understand the question in relation to the comment you quoted?
The PSD is another avenue for mature aged players, reserves league players, or uncontracted AFL players to get into the system outside of the national draft, which is traditionally used for young players coming up through the junior systems.

You'd think Essendon would learn by now on mature negotiations
Just another piece of evidence on why they are miles off the good clubs
Spot on.

The guy is a nutter but then again if you have a read of the Essendon board, the place is full of nutters.

Whoever is running the EFC do not seem smart enough to realise the guy is doing them much more harm than good.

As I said earlier in this thread “Thank god Saad did not want to come to the Hawks” because this Dodo Bozo would have asked for our pick 4, Jack Gunston, and Clarko.

Lot of ifs and buts there.

“If he was a free agent”...

Hes not, so why bother bringing it up?

And on that, given you bought it up, if he was a free agent and Carlton was offering him around $600-700k a year... then they’d probably just chuck in another $50-100k to help ensure they get him for nothing (no draft pick cost through being forced into a trade) anyway..

And..

youre not a fan of people presenting arguements that dont suit your agenda are you.. this is the main board and I’ve got as much right to post my opinions here as anyone else.. so pull your head in..

You havent presented an argument, you presented rhetoric surrounding his contract and how that translates to appropriate value. The AFL has a system in place for such discussions which I used to rubbish your appraisal.

neither do you but you keep trying to parade your opinion as fact.. which way is it??

Williams and Cameron compo won’t push our pick back.

Daniher compo won’t matter if you receive pick 7 in a deal. You will have three picks in a row and won’t miss a player you want.

JUH and Campbell are essentially off the board. You’ll get the same player at 7 or 9 bid or no bid.

Crouch compo will push our pick back by one, should it be band 1.

Which part of this do you dispute?

Given how much he cooked the Daniher stuff last year, I agree you would think he would learn.

I get wanting to get fair value for your player, but honestly an end of first round is about right. That should be an early 20's.

What an absolute laughing stock this club is on and off the field.

We should just give them Walsh, C Curnow, TDK, McKay, Cripps.

And then we should also just throw in pick #7 and Weitering as steak knives.

Anything else we can do for Dodo?

If the AFL thought Carlton were pulling swifties, they would step in and mediate, but they won't because they know Carlton will offer a fair trade.
Saad has said that he does not want to be at Essendon moving forward. Essendon has trashed Saad on the way out, saying that he's not a team player and doesn't take instruction/criticism well. Do you honestly think the AFL would sit back and watch as Essendon draft him back in through the PSD?

Most thought our offer for Martin was fair. GC wanted our 1st. Most said that was way too much (sounding familiar?). Our 1st was also tied up with Papley on the provision that Dodo pulled the trigger on the Daniher trade (another fair deal that was knocked back by a familiar player). Gold Coast also made rumblings about having a PSD pick ahead of us and re-drafting him (as well as Melbourne tabling an offer to him and showing interest in picking him up in the PSD).
GC refused our fair deal simply because they were holding out for a 1st rounder and thanks to the AFL's 'assistance' pick handouts, they could afford to be fussy and felt they were making some point about holding out and getting nothing for him.

Most think that 7 is too much for Saad. Dodo's initial requests have been slammed by many as ridiculous and potentially harmful to negotiations (even some Essendon supporters). Carlton will find a way of coming up with a fair offer, and they would prefer NOT to go through the PSD. That, I'm sure of. The only unpredictable factor here is Dodo.

There's a slight risk that he won't land at Carlton if he goes to the PSD. As annoying as that would be, Carlton wouldn't actually lose anything out of that. We either go to the draft with our pick(s), or move onto another deal.
It would be a stupid loss for Essendon - losing a good player for nothing at a time where they need what they can get. It would be a loss for Saad - not getting to his club of choice. It could potentially be a loss for whichever club is ballsy enough to pick him up for 5 years at $650k in the PSD on the hope that they can convince him to buy in.

You're certainly polishing something over at the hangar.
