Not really
Yes really.

Bomber and Blues fans are in the most part not able to agree.

Short is as good if not better than Saad. It's a dispassionate way to look at it.

As an interested observer this trade looks like lunacy to me. He's a want, not a need. I get Williams (too much coin, but I get the move, makes sense), but I don't get this.

It's like the Bombers recruiting outside mids the last little while. Nice, not a need. Finally they target Dunkley how many years after Jobe is gone?

Value? If they're that intent on getting him, 7 is way overs. I'd want a pick mid second coming back. He's not top 5 for his position in the league.

Saad I think is not a team player and where ever he goes finishes near the bottom so clubs better beware. But having said that he is a mighty good defender

Essendon and Carlton fans: what would you pay for Short?

I think this is another way to look at this situation.
They would use the same evaluations of Saad on Short.

End of first round pick is the usual go for this type of player. (inc Short)

If I were pulling the strings I would be trying to upgrade pick 27 as high up the order as possible with later picks.

Short is 3 years younger so is more valuable (not quite as quick but a better kick makes it pretty even as a player for next season )

Gee Saad just keeps getting older and older. He’s 1.5 years older than short Fwiw.
Its an interesting comparison though. I’d definitely have Shorts foot skills well ahead, but feel Saad is definitely the better defender.

Id probably have both at a similarish value.

Wasn't there a Carlton poster who said something along the lines if Essendon ended up with pick 7, he'd have a Bombers avatar on his profile during the trade period....or something along those lines I think it was.

Cos I got some bad news for him 🤣

On the other side of that coin, many Essendon supporters have been adamant that it's no 7 No Saad.

You have 7. So stop **** ing about and release the bloke.

Yeah, you'd imagine essendon would have to have a second coming back to Carlton.
Pick 8 itself is not realistic, either is Carlton fans thinking they can spit their pick for 2 mid teens picks, then trade us the later pick essentially getting Saad for a 4 pick downgrade

The split pick idea is dead in the water. Carlton are snookered here and will have to pony up Pick 8 or they miss out on Saad.
