Pick 48 isn’t a decent pick. Carlton fans themselves are saying so in the Cerra thread.
Nice attempt at trolling, but you will get nothing but positive replies from Carlton fans. Saad is an absolute jet!

He will finish top 5 in our B & F in a team that had absolutely no defensive structure.

Imagine him in the next few years with so much more support around him. And yes, don’t forget Durdin was part of this deal. It’s looking better and better..

Now, over to the Dylan ‘The butcher of Tulla’ Shiel thread to see how a club absolutely over-paid for an underachieving, over-rated B grader 🤣🤣🤣.

Carlton fans can try and turn it into a Reid vs Saad debate all they want but it isn’t relevant.
Reid was selected at the pick you got from the Saad trade, so how is it irrelevant?

To be fair, I'd even rather Durdin with the pick 48 you gave us than Reid at pick 10! Add in Saad who will finish top 5 in our BnF, and that's a massive win for us.

...that's why we upgraded it. End of the day we essentially got Saad and Durdin for that first round pick.

It’s not trolling to suggest Carlton gave up significant overs for Saad.

Yeah Essendon overpaid for Shiel. He came second in our B&F his first year though so by your logic it doesn’t matter

12 months ago to the day you were literally saying the exact opposite.

Attributing other Essendon fans comments as mine? Before he requested a trade, during trade period and after he requested the trade I’ve consistently said it was overs.

What muddies the waters is the covid impacted year and lack of exposed form. Who knows if pick 10 last year may not have been as valuable as previous years.

Technically true:

My take is 8 is overs but not by as much as everyone is saying given the amount of academy players this year and the lack of intel.

Essendon should push for a package worth around pick 15 this year.

You rated him at around Pick 15.

We gave 8 and 87, and got 48 and 78 back. The later picks are junk, but the other picks are valued at 1,551 (8) - 302 (48) or 1,249 points so Pick 12-13 in value.

So we actually payed a package (12-13) worth close to what you suggested (15)

That is gold. This bloke….

Don’t really see it as being anywhere near as close as you make out. Picks outside of the top 35-40 are practically worthless if you don’t have academy players.

I was thinking Essendon should push for a second rounder and some points for our academy players.

To me pick 10 was significant overs so much so I was convinced that we’d be sending our 2021 second back to Carlton.

Look at the Tuohy, Hibberd and GC Saad trade for reference. Either Essendon got massive overs or 2020 draft picks just must not have been as valuable

Big difference. One good year in five is not what you give up two first rounders for. Essendon sold the farm for Shiel (Dodo folded and gave up twice as much as we did for Saad) who is no longer in their starting midfield. He was a second stringer at GWS and is a second stringer at Essendon.

Saad was a top-liner at Essendon and was great at Carlton in his first year. That’s consistently performing at a high level and the sort of player you give up top 10 draft picks for.

Probably explains why you’re so salty 😜

Why are you just making stuff up? Shiels only spent 3 years at Essendon and is still part of our first midfield rotation. Heck he was AA in 2017 which is within your 5 years. Besides I’m happy to admit we overpaid.

Keep telling yourselves that.

Michael Hibberd - traded for pick 29

Zac Tuohy - Traded for a pick upgrade 23 to 16

Adam Saad GC - traded for pick 29

Adam Saad Ess - traded Pick 10

You have answered your own question genius.

You think you overpaid for Shiel.

We don’t think we overpaid for Saad.

You are salty.

We are content.

Glad we cleared that up.

So you’re trying to say 2017 was Shiels only decent year?

I don’t see how I’m salty but I can see why you keep deflecting from legitimate discussion.

Favourite memory of Saady is him getting 21 touches (at a classy 86% efficiency), 6 intercepts, 8 score involvements, almost 700m gained and a goal when we beat the Bumbers.

He seemed to play better and better every time you mob started booing him!

Ummm. A couple of key indicators your saltiness…

Your countless posts pre/post the Saad trade last year.

You comparing the Saad trade to the Cerra trade…and implying a negative connotation…a year later.

It’s been fun but I’ve got to fly. And always remember… EVERYONE LOOKS BETTER IN NAVY BLUE (that includes Adam and Adam😜).

Easy to see why it is your favourite memory, it was about the only good game he played this year.

My favourite memory was him crying on the bench after his mercenary, dollar-for-hire teammates failed to protect him and fly the flag (clearly due to lack of culture) in an another embarrassing loss which ultimately led to another coach sacking in only his first year.

Hopefully he bounces back next year.

Man, looking back - Carlton got absolutely fleeced on this deal. This is why Dodoro is the best in the business. He took Austin's socks and everything.
Is this the Dodo who signed off on the 6 year, 2 first draft picks, multi-million dollar Shiel deal?!!🤪🤪🤪.

Poor old Dodo lost his socks, jocks and balls in that disaster 🤣🤣🤣.

So many great memories.

Run down tackles.

Never gives up

Breathtaking goals on the run

BOG against Essendon.

Plays with passion.

No wonder everyone at Essendon was so upset to lose him.

Oh, by the way. How’s that player you picked with pick 10 (that’s what it ended up) going?
