Weirdly we've had a rolled gold best 22 that you support the selection of each and every week and yet we've finished 11th, 12th, 18th and 15th* the last 4 years. And yet there's not a single player that gets regular games that you think we need to move past. You're not actually the real Bicks are you, it's an eerily similar philosophy to that of the club.
You're getting very close to going on ignore mate, you're endless pushing of the same agenda over and over at every opportunity on every thread is of no interest to me.

Good point. Both in the final year of their career which wouldn't apply to Jake Kelly on a (certain) multi-year deal

Thommo's last year was a gift for past deeds. Which is why it was presented as a playing and coaching role. VB is the only one. Otto and Pids did too, but they called it themselves, VB kept plugging away. But, the fact remains is that outside of the final year pre-retirement, junior players do not push past senior players and the vast majority retire from a best 22 position.

Very considered answer mate. If Adelaide supporters want him in your colours next year, your going to have to pony up with something substantial.

No club would trade him. I wouldn't even play him in the under 18 championships. It would be pointless.

I have never seen another 18 year old do this to grown men in a 1st class competition, and I have been watching players debut since the early 80's.

... and I wouldn't expect him to be playing in the SANFL, given that he is an established member of the 22, highly regarded by the coaches, and in good form.

The disrespect of Kelly is very much a BigFooty thing, and in no way reflects his standing at the AFC.

That's right, the club has a long history of rating the wrong players and it's one reason we finished last in 2020 and are currently bottom 4.

Being highly regarded at the Crows is not a tick of approval

Yes, we all know that the club would have won the last 20 consecutive flags, if only they'd followed the advice of you & your mates on BigFooty.

Somehow I don't think I am the only one that will see your average drop markedly from here on in champ:banana:

As someone with a high like-to-post ratio which apparently makes me an authority on this forum, I would like to commend you on an elite usage of "champ"

Your is 18% and his is 5.5%. Mine is 125%

You both need to try harder. ;)
We need to bring in as many first round picks as possible. Trade all or as many of these blokes as possibly can and bring in as much as possible. Obviously don't trade them for nothing.
- Tom Mitchell
- Luke Breust
- Jack Gunston (We could have traded this bloke last year for Collingwoods 2021 first ound pick)
- Jaegar O'Meara
- Chad Wingard
If Clarko doesn't like this idea, sack him and bring Sam Mitchell in as senior coach.

This is the sort of thing you put up about your own club... You seem very insightful. Thanks for your thoughts.

Crikey... do you do a keyword search on Horne every 30mins or so? :grimacing:

I'm going to be honest, I went to the stats to find something that shows Kelly is no good and we shouldn't be offering him a new contract. Then I discovered he is rated elite this year for the following:

Disposal efficiency - 86%! wow
Contested one on ones - avg 3.3
Contested marks - 0.8 per game

Also rated above average in the following:
One percenters (no shock) 3.7
Intercept possessions 5.7
Contested possession rate 33.3 (makes the efficiency even more amazing)
Kick efficiency - 79.8%
Intercept marks - 1.4
Spoils - 3.2
Tackles 2.4

Kick efficiency (along with metres gained) are the most deceptive stats in the AFL. Uncontested switch kick? Effective. Bomb down the line to a 1 on 2? Effective. What's not effective is a kick from 65 out that threads a web of defenders, but requires the target to stretch a bit - and it goes through their hands.

Kelly's kicking efficiency is high (like Brown's, and Talia's too I suspect) by virtue of the lower risk associated with their kicks. When you're Lukosius - and biting off 50 metre targets inside 50 through a window the size of David Mackay's career highlight video, you're going to have a lower efficiency.

Likewise, frees for and loose ball gets count as contested possessions. So gathering a spill from a contest in space - contested. Unfortunately AFL isn't like the NBA - statistics are still a little misleading on occasion.

I don’t think many disrespect him. I think most of us recognize that he gives 100%, is tough, and pretty reliable. It’s not disrespectful to think he has limitations and that we’d be a better team with him replaced by someone better.

Knightmare has Duckus at 1 Horne 2 Sonsie 3 Roberts 4

Duckus is a master of dropping his knees to draw free kicks, making him even more dangerous in traffic. If no free kick is drawn, because his arms are outstretched with ball in hand,

Duckcos ... related species to the Sellwood duck.

Like many other players, we missed our opportunity to trade Kelly at the peak of his value some years ago - he had good if unspectacular seasons as a stopper in 2017 and 2019, and looked a solidly enticing player to a team looking to fill a need, surplus to requirements for us at the end of both with the star in Doedee set to take the spot, reluctantly moving him on for the right price. However, we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it, as per usual. Now we're stuck with a 26 year old medium defender with exposed limitations, no real spot for him in a properly constructed team - it's Kelly or Doedee, not and - and no way to turn him into anything more than we got for Keath or Greenwood.

And what was Kelly's 'peak value'? :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

A third rounder? Who cares at that price, might as well keep him as a backup to the backups.

We could have gotten a second round pick in the 30s from the right buyer based on how he played in those seasons.

It's a matter of finding value in what you have but know you don't need, what you know is never going to answer any of your list questions, and then using that value to try again for something better. Other clubs do it, we don't, instead choosing to hold onto every single player until the trade value bottoms out.
