Don't underestimate the Clinton Young out, that's huge for us. He is the type of player that generally hurts us, he has speed and a long, solid kick. Happy to see him and Guerra out, Ellis and Murphy are role players so I'm sure they can come in and do something, but I can't see them damaging us, and neither is gifted with pace.

As for us, I don't mind the 3 talls, I don't know how but we need to isolate Trav obviously. Dawes on one flank and Paine on the other, just tell them to get out of the space. Paine is a wildcard, if they try to play-off him and don't give him enough respect, I can easily see him leading up, taking a grab and being that perfect link man.

Getting more excited every hour that passes, cannot wait!

Young is out for them, which i reckon is a bonus for us. He can be very damaging
I still remember that rd 17 game when there was a series of handballs in their forward line and it ended up with Young 30 out straight in front with nobody in the same postcode. He is very good at finding space amd when he does, he absolutely murders you.

He also kicks bombs from 60 meters out... its a big loss for us.

Goldsack could have played a deffensive role but in the end it was the right call.

Dawes can play the Leigh Brown role now and Paine can be the FF. We need to make their backline accountable and not allow players peeling off their man and helping out Shoenmakers.

We're a huge show with the outs. They've lost their best small defender (guerra) and their best outside runner (young). If we nullify the impact of their best inside mids (Mitchell and Sewell) the game is ours.

If Paine starts, I'd be surprised if he gets a full game. Our forward line might be a little slow on paper. Then again if the mids get the ball and we open up the forward 50 we'll look fast.

I want Shaw the loveable psycho to be amongst the best. You know what happens when people write us off. ;)

10 years ago today was our Port Adelaide final. Of 52 Melbourne tipsters in the papers, 3 tipped us, with 1 being Mick Malthouse and another the Herald Sun's Kiss of Death.

I think we are a massive show.

Some Port supporters thought the same thing before 2:30pm on Grand Final Day 2007.

i know we werent going to be favourites or anyhting, but damn, that is...just...completely being written off. we obviously have a better chance than those numbers should suggest.

I'm not too happy with going in tall, but that said I don't think it is quite the issue that is being made out and there is some good sense behind the selections.

Goldsack in essence has gone out for Dawes. This means Paine shifts to Goldsacks third tall role and Dawes goes back to his key forward role. This hurts us in two important ways.

I think Goldsack is a better role player as a defensive forward on someone like Birchall. I don't think Paine is up for that role.

It also risks dragging Dawes into Clokes forward space which would be disastrous and game over. We need Dawes to be very concious of this, I hope the coaches have spent plenty of time with him on this.

What we do gain is a workable and competitive second ruck option which is important against Roughead who is no slouch. We should have learnt our lessons about ruckmans and finals by now so in that sense a positive move.

Considering structurally, in terms of talls, it is basically Paine > Goldsack, that is the mobility we miss. Which is a little but not nearly as drastic as some seem to think.

So what? What relevance does that have to this game? Every game is different. This argument offers nothing constructive at all.

The last time they worked well together was the Sydney game, where Trav stayed deep inside 50 while Dawes rarely went back inside 50 once the ball was bounced, and it worked.

We need to use the same tactics tomorrow night, Cloke as the deep forward, Dawes as the true CHF roaming around outside 50 and Paine leading in the opposite direction to wherever Cloke is to draw Gibson away from the ball, or even get him one on one where he makes Harry O'Brien look like a great defender.

Are you serious? Cloke's just reminded us of how good he is in a roaming role, and you want him to go back to being stationary, where he's struggled all year?

And I was confident we would win the 2010 replay...what's your point? I am not always right, in fact I saw no threat in North in rd 21 at the time and we got pantsed. Just I think we are more of a chance than some people are giving us credit for. A much better chance.

I'd have to watch the season again, but I reckon Trav has been up the ground most of the year and was plonked deep last week. Prefer him deep for the record here.

High risk high reward strategy.
If Dawes and Paine pay their way we will be hard to defend against.
But if they don't, we have very little flexibility without Goldsack and will be cut to pieces.

The weather doesn't look good so I think Paine will drop out for Sinclair.

Guerra and Young are out for the hawks really hurt them. X Ellis is just a player and Murphy has been out of favour all year and while he can play a role, he's not the sort of player that can hurt you.

I like the idea of the 3 big boys up forward. They must seperate as much as possible. The hawks defenders rely on each to come 3rd up. As long as therer are no late change the matchups will be:

Cloke v Shoenmakers
Dawes v Gibson
Paine v Stratton

Cloke goes where he wants. He reads the play well, has a huge tank and he needs to be unleashed. Dawes must play deep for mine. He's obviously not a great mark so he's much better off competing close to goal and making a genuine contest. He's a big boy and needs to make his prescence felt. If he fires up, hits the contest hard then things will turn for him. Jacko Paine should be the floater. If his man looks to zone off, we must hit him up. It'll make them accountable and isolate our other forwards. We must get the ball in the hands off Fasolo, Krakouer and Didak. They're elite ball users and can pick apart the hawks backline.

I'm super pumped for this,I have no doubt we can win it. Bring it on!

Like others have said both Guerra and Young out are massive for us. Confidence going into tomorrow night has increased exponentially! If our forwards can work together, separate, pressure and lead well then we'll be well on our way. Also need our mids to win the midfield contests and give direct and accurate delivery into our forward 50. I really believe that a 4 quarter team effort with elements of our best footy can get us over the line. Really excited for tomorrow night!!
GO PIES!!
