Tenacious performance by the young Hawfs. It's only Round 1 and way too early to be using the "F" word, but they could be one of the improvers this year and give their long-suffering fans something to cheer about. Admittedly the Adelaide juggernaut had one of those 'off' days when nothing went right, but if the Hawks continue to play like that, they just might have a say in shaping the top eight

People are expecting Adelaide to return to 2017 form. Plus it was in Adelaide. On what I saw the 2018 ladder is pretty accurate.

Port beating Melbourne in Melbourne is a bigger upset. Given there's only been 4 games you're a 25% chance.
I agree the Port upset was bigger.

I don't know why people were expecting Adelaide to suddenly return to a grand final side, that kind of form is not wired up to a light switch. I believe they can get back there, but having them as such heavy favourites today based on nothing but 'they've looked sharp and hungry throughout the pre-season' was just dumb.

Ain't going to lie, Hawks get Cogs next year and we're all in deep shit.
Cogs would be a huge get but where Hawks will have 2 big glaring weaknesses are our KPF and KPD stocks. That's the big challenge for our list management team over the next couple of years.

I think there was legitimate reasons for some hype behind Adelaide, but it was probably overdone. The reasons are mostly driven by their injury list, in round 18 last season it looked like this:
Brad Crouch (Groin) Season

Harry Dear (Knee) 1-2 weeks

Richard Douglas (Ankle) 1-2 weeks

Jackson Edwards (Ankle) 2-3 weeks

Curtly Hampton (Illness) Test

David Mackay (Ribs) 2-3 weeks

Mitch McGovern (Ankle) Test

Andrew McPherson (Hamstring) Indefinite

Reilly O'Brien (Shoulder) Season

Andy Otten (Achilles) Test

Daniel Talia (Shin) Test

At the start of this season it looked like this:

Luke Brown Ankle 6-8 weeks
Paul Seedsman Finger/Thumb 1 week

It wasn't that round 18 was particular bad for them compared to the rest of the season, they were ruined by injury most of the year. It made sense to predict a big turnaround with almost everyone fit now. Adelaide have made a habit out of losing to Hawthorn at AO. I'll give it a few weeks before thinking about writing off Adelaide's season, partly because I'm not sure how good Hawthorn are going to be yet. If this turns out to be a rare win for us, then Adelaide are probably in trouble.

To be fair I think plan B is an overrated concept. Clarko has said as much in the past. You put a lot of effort into training your players to understand and implement plan A, the thought that suddenly trying a completely different plan during the game is going to come off any better seems like wishful thinking. Clarko is a great coach because he comes up with a plan A that the entire team, including Box Hill can be drilled in, and every player understands their role extremely well. This is very important for your bottom 4-6 players too, it allows you to make spuds look like decent role players when they execute plan A as the coach has requested them to. While he does make tweaks during the game if things are not working, it is not 'plan B', but rather some fine tuning on plan A. Clarko is also a no Plan-B coach.

Plan B does not need to be a radically different concept though. Just something tweeked to create more oppertunity.

In other words.

Adelaide has Plan A

Hawthorn have Plan A.1, A.2, A.3, A.4, A.5

Very ordinary showing from the Crows. They could be 0-2 after next week. Of the last 47 teams to start 0-2, only 3 teams have made the finals.
Oh boy!

We will have to crack on trying to make that 4 teams then hey.

Luckily following up our bogey team, we get to reverse it next week with Sydney in Sydney.

Going a bit early people, last year we smashed the Pies in rd1 and most said we just beat a nobody and they went on to nearly win the flag.

Gee, the performance was terrific and you should be very proud of your club. But you've gone very, very early here.
You think Hawthorn will finish bottom 4?
