You've got a bit of truth there, but you can't argue with the fact that Freo were favourites.

And the fact that we had 15 premiership players there, higher ladder position, and decent form, and were still not favourites speaks pretty heavily to the current team situation. The betting odds are the only quantifiable representation of the quality of the team/s and other impacting factors.

Punters are often wrong - especially this year. But based on the info available, and despite the aforementioned factors, Freo were relatively heavy favourites.

These are not excuses these are just realities.

It just strikes me as a genuinely weird thing to do. You either leave it on the ground or toss it to the ump. There was no “casually hand it to your teammate” option when I was a kid.

Probably one of the work experience kids the Pies had on. Never played footy before.

Have to agree - didn’t like the way they let the pies throw the ball to each other multiple times, lay tackles before players get the ball, get an armchair ride for 90% of the game.

Re-wind, one of those WA teams made it to a grand final, by playing a final at Geelong. The only final that has ever been played at Geelong. An advantage, nup.

Which is as close to playing a home game outside WA as a WA team was going to get. Also the narrower ground suited Fremantle's defensive game plan. Geelong made a tactical mistake pushing for that game to be played at Geelong. I can guarantee you that Hawthorn's coaches were rubbing their hands together when they realised they were playing Fremantle. They knew they had that game one

Only from distances that warranted kicking it back. Sometimes the ball ended up further away from the umpire than where it started, wouldn't be surprised if there'd been instances where the ball went through three or more players before eventually getting to the umpire (maybe even some spectators if the ball was on that side of the fence, especially if a hill was involved!).
You'd be surprised to know it wasn't at AFL level, so we probably had less rules and slightly lower expectations

Classic he said / internet people said situation. Q admitted he was lying on the field about touching it so he can never be believed again, whereas football fans are known for being rational and unbiased and the internet is the most trusted source of factual information we have ever had. So it must have been touched.
