You are right, in their 12th year in Sydney the Swans averaged under 10,000 per home game. I must have been thinking of Brisbane who averaged just over 6,000.

Two things, the SCG is in the centre of Sydney (easy to get to) and in their 5th year, Dr Edelstein had bought a very entertaining and high scoring team. You can't do that these days.
