Wardlaw - taken high - no free. No comment from you.

Eaglles player drags ball in - gets tackled - holding the ball. You: Waaa waaa.
Taken high? I’ve seen the replay a bunch of times and I’m yet to see a clear hit to the head that wasn’t aided by Wardlaw diving head first into Yeo. Wardlaw also dropped the ball after he was tackled. You can’t then go and penalise the guy who picks the loose ball up

I don't think 'interesting' is the word.

Baffling. Extraordinary. Bizarre. Incomprehensible.

There's a few that describe it better.

I still can't wrap my head around how an umpire would come to the conclusion that that was a Free Kick. So strange.

Surely just human error?
Its exactly the same as the example in the video the AFL released showing what would be paid HTB the other day. Its like he tried to

He also grabbed George Wardlaw around the neck and jumped on his head a split second before he dragged the ball in while on the ground. So he should have been called for that anyway.

We're the worst team in history and the WC are still our bunnies. Its hilarious.

There's a replay. Notice how he's barely landed from jumping to get the ball when Yeo grabs him round his head then jumps on it.

"Dived head first into Yeo" - lol nice one Peter Rabbit.

People see what they want to see I guess. That hasn’t been given high all year and there were plenty of worse ones missed

Maybe.

Its irrelevant because the AFL released a video with that exact action Yeo carried out as an example of what would be played HTB from now on. (It was Sam Walsh in their example.)

Not on his feet. Dragged the ball into his body and got tackled. Players have been on the ground holding the ball with arm outstretched in the last 2 rounds to avoid giving that free away and not been pinged as a result. (All that can do is slow the ball down while someone gets it free. Its not holding the ball to your body to stop it getting away.)

Yeo can whinge all he likes after the game. It was the correct call.

Did I mention that as bad as we are you lot are still our easybeats

Because I'd like to if I hadn't yet.

I don't think enough is being made of how hard it is for you guys to beat us in recent years.

Reid is beside himself. Driving around downtown Melbourne begging (thru texts) Brady's family for address to Rawlings' home

When the Yeo free kick happened, the first two TV commentator's called the play as Yeo dragging the ball back in and appeared to call the free kick as expected. Gerard Healy then threw some salt on the incident voicing his disapproval.

I believe that much of the controversy is due to recent changes to the interpretations of the HTB rule.
Healy appeared to totally disregard the action of Yeo dragging the ball back in and appeared to take the position that this free was due to recent HTB interpretation changes. But the HTB law when on the ground and dragging in a loose ball has been in play for sometime now and I'm quite confident that the umpire pinged Yeo for that.

That is, Law 18.6.5 says;
Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Diving on Top of the Football
A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player who dives on top of or drags the football underneath their body and fails to immediately knock clear or Correctly Dispose of the football when Legally Tackled.

You give up your prior opportunity under that Law.

If you watch the replay, you can see Yeo drags the loose ball underneath his body, then rises on his knees and gets tackled.
To make matters worse, Ryan was standing there and Yeo could have knocked/tapped the loose ball out instead of taking possession.
Law 18.6.5 was introduced to reduce stoppages and to stop players who are not on their feet, choosing to take possession instead of trying to clear the ball of the congestion. If the Free Kick was not paid, it would have been a ball up ... which is what that law is designed to prevent.

Many of us do prefer that umpires put the whistle away during the final minutes of a close game, but we should not be shocked if an umpire gives a free (as determined by the laws) during that time.

Im guessing......you made that up.

Not a bad troll.....but keep practicing.

Kicking 2.15 at 3 qrt time cost them the game.

One poor call late didnt.

That crap call in Tassie cost GWS though. Seems to be going around.
His words, not mine.

Barra does revel in hyperbole

He was more interested in coming back to Melbourne to watch Vic Country play than to stay in Perth and watch the 22 deadshits he has to carry each week.

Probably holding interviews with Melbourne clubs as we speak ;)

Yeo picks up the loose ball and attempts to stand. He was not previously tackled and he didnt dive on the ball to hold up play. Which is the intent of the rule to punish.

He had no prior opportunity when tackled. It was a loose ball after he tackled the player with the ball.

Eagles didnt deserve to win kicking 2.15 at 3 quarter time. I can accept that. Totally accept the result. This year is about development not winning every single week to make finals which will not happen. So lock that in Eddie. The result DID NOT matter.

Now. Are you ok with Freo getting knocked out of the finals with a similar decision? Be honest.

Im guesing no.....you would be pretty unhappy. Seething in fact.

Lucky for us the decision didnt impact our season like it would have a team fighting to make finals. So we may be unhappy but meh.....this season is about development not making top 8.

Any way. I look forward to reading your posts when Freo get the wrong call late in a game and see how your attitude flips 180 degrees.;):) Im 100% certain your view will be totally different.

Yeo dragged the ball in under his body.
After my post that stated that HTB law, I then saw the umpires review and response that stated the Yeo decision was correct because he dragged the ball in. The TV commentators said Yeo dragged the ball in. If you watch the replay you will see he drags the loose ball in under his body.

Under that HTB law, you have no prior opportunity.

And yes the intent of that particular HTB law was to stop play being held up ... which is exactly what Yeo's actions would have done if the HTB Free Kick against Yeo had not be given. The umpire had a choice of either FK against Yeo or another stoppage (toss the ball up).

Lastly, being a Freo supporter means I'll be delighted if Freo makes the finals and history has prepared me well to expect to be knocked out of the finals due to one or more dodgy decisions.

Yeo grabbed the ball and started to stand.

Dragging the ball in or diving on the ball free are for pack situations or a player who loses the ball when being tackled. And the intent was to hold up play.

That was not the case here.

I do look forward to Freo getting shafted by a similar poor decision that ends your year. And your response then.

Lucky for us we arent playing finals. So really no real harm done by poor umpiring in our case.

You do know how it works yeah??

Any offer over 800k to 900k will trigger a first round compo.
No, it doesnt. They take into consideration length of contract, average salary over the length, and AGE OF THE FREE AGENT.
We would be lucky to get band 3 compo(start of 2nd round) for that salary, good chance its just band 4

You hang your hat on that sweet lips.

We exist to win flags not beat tin rattlers in home and away games.

Freo mentality….
