Tom stewarts greatness just continues. He has won 4 all australians in 6 seasons of football. This was statistically his best season. Had some god like games this year. Has always made the starting side too. No bench warmer selections. continues this for another 2-3 seasons and he will go down as one of the games all time great half back flankers.

Hawkins didnt deserve To be in the team. But he was robbed of a spot a couple of years ago so this kind of evens it up.
You seriously underrate Hawkins

3rd for goals whilst being way ahead on goal assists compared to other forwards (2nd overall) and the number 1 score involvement player has him easily in the AA team.

I'm pretty stoked all our named players got in the squad, and TBone being made Captain was nice. I thought the team overall was pretty good, but like every year, some players were stiff not to get selected in the initial squad or named in the final team. Happens every year. Move on.

Did my eyes deceive me when they had a picture of a GWS player when announcing Connor Rozee from Port???
It looked like Rozee and - yes - he was in a Giants jersey. Weird????

This is the correct opinion. Not to mention the fact that he also takes over the rucking contests inside forward 50, allowing more flexibility for Stanley/Cegs/Blicavs, and he's even been spotted down back occasionally to square up on lose forwards and help with ejection from defense. He's an absolute swiss army knife. Funny how many of those types of players we've developed, isn't it? Hawk, Blicavs, Henry, Duncan, Close, Thuoy etc. Would really be a head-scratcher for opposition coaches when so many of our players are comfortable in multiple positions playing muiltiple roles. The days of the one-dimensional AFL player are all but dead.

We had five players in the team after finishing two games and significant % on top.

Last year Melbourne finished half a game on top, had five players in the AA team and nobody batted an eyelid (nor should they - all five deserved it).

It is really quite sometime how triggering we are to oppo fans.
I don’t think it’s exactly annoyance about the number, I think it’s more to do with a fear that the number of AA’s we got are confirming that we may actually win the premiership.

I thought he’d turned a corner and was positive about our direction. This season has gone pretty much exactly how he hoped (except CS still being in charge).
This season has definitely been pretty invalidating for a lot of Cats supporters, myself partially included. I think people make it black and white - If Chris Scott is bad, he's definitely bad and will never win a flag at Geelong, etc. This seems to stop people from being able to take a more nuanced view, like "Chris Scott has made some serious errors in the past and his coaching hasn't always been fruitful, but maybe now with the right people around him and a rejuvenated list, he's capable of another Premiership." The second view seems more reasonable than the first, and this season has definitely helped me move towards that opinion. Having said that, losing another Prelim or (god forbid) getting knocked out in straight sets will definitely cement more belief in the first.

My favourite thing about the AA team: Stengle. One club's trash is another club's treasure. We've definitely been on the better end of some recent trades/pickups. This kid is the next Stevie J, and possibly even better (dare I say it?). Given his age, he's probably going to end up being a more fruitful pickup than Cameron or maybe even Dangerfield. Crazy stuff. Just praying the kid can keep his head screwed on and stay in the good lane.

He played in the top team which got heaps of ball in the foward line and averaged under 2.7 goals a game. Tom lynch averaged over 3.3 goals a game. Thats a massive gap in favour of Lynch. Too big a gap. Lynch should be in instead of hawkins. Lynch played 3 less games then hawkins so those total stats are meaningless. Looks at averages per game.

Lynch had 6 goal assists whereas Hawkins had 26. Also his ruck craft is miles ahead of any other key forward.

Still dont think that covers the over 0.6 goals a game difference.
Line-ball for me. 0.6 goals per game = 3pts. All those assists, plus rucking to your team's advantage inside 50 and winning hitouts? Yeah that pretty much accounts for 3 pts per game in my opinion. The knock-on effect of 1%ers and selfless play is huge, and in my opinion either Hawk or Lynch could have easily made the team.

Having said that, I'll side with Hawkins, because you know, I'm a Cats fan.

Why is it just Stewart though?

Maynard was good but AA worthy? Saad wasn't even the best at Carlton (Docherty was).

Can't argue with Taylor, May or Sinclair.
Exactly. You could maybe could make an argument for sicily over stewart. They look pretty line ball to me. But Stewart is clearly ahead of Saad and Maynard.

I dont rank goals and goal assists quite the same. Opponents are trying all out to stop shots on goal. They are sometimes willing to concede goal assists as they still have another opportunity to stop the goal. in my view a goal assist on average is probably worth 0.7 times a goal.

but if we do rate them equally then hawkins gets in the side. But so does tom lynch. The player who misses out is curnow.

combined goals and goal assists per game:

tom lynch 3.7
tom hawkins 3.9
jeremy cameron 3.6
Charlie curnow 3.5

so maybe you are right. Hawkins should make the side, but so should lynch. 3.3 goals a game is monster season and far better then any other foward this year.
