AFL club insider claims their side tanked...

I'm not talking about the 'tanking or cheating'. I'm talking about the 'loser culture' you said we have. Much like the one you guys had for over 40 years prior to the 2007 GF, right?
I don't recall losing every being accepted by Geelong or the Geelong coaches, players or board.

I knew my team went out every week busting their guts to win, sure we didn't get many flags against State-teams, salary-cap cheats etc but we never went out to lose games. (NB. Those teams i mentioned since have got their just-deserts)

Watch the interview, watch the game. What your fans. Losing culture is now accepted and has been accepted at Carlton. 22 men being put on the ground by that club to deliberately lose matches.

WOW, lots of interesting points made in this post!

I think you need to make sure the terms are defined.

Booking people in for surgery and planning for next year is fine- every team out of the running for the eight does that to a certain extent. I think you can also say giving kids an extra run also falls into that category- long term its right for the club.

However, once the ball bounces down, any player or coach doing anything other than their utmost to win a game, is tanking, cheating, and draft tampering.

Things like pulling good players off in the final quarter for no reason, or purposely not manning up loose men, those are the meat of the allegations against Carlton, and thats what needs to be answered.

The best way to fix this is get rid of the priority picks, and have the draft in this order:

14th - pick 1
15th - pick 2
16th - pick 3

What clubs need are good talent scouts that can use their nous and spot the potential in a kid.

LIBBA has his opinion, I have mine...........

HUTCHY backs up his superb effort from Monday night .......

The Footy Show keep talking him up, but he is a JOKE:eek:

Even I could come up with better more probing questions in 5 minutes:D. Which ever side of the fence you sit on, he should have squeezed out a lot more from LIBBA.

I wonder if it will ever truly sink in that what everyone is saying about your club is simply the way it is?

Carlton supporters don't care what people like you say. If we did we'd barrack for a team that never wins anything and is therefore not hated by anyone. Like St. Kilda.

I've seen my team win flags, have you??

For the integrity of the competition, there is only one thing that can be done to repair this damage and adequately punish Carlton and show other clubs this isn't on:

Murphy to West Sydney, Gibbs, Kruezer to Gold Coast :D:thumbsu:

The only rats around here is Carlton scum, not Libba who was just being honest.

Shame, shame, shame Carlton, hope you get your right whack which you will, enjoy it.

There is no doubt that other clubs have altered their teams in the latter stages of different seasons to be in a better position come draft day. However this one by Carlton is the most recent and the fact that someone who was a part of the coaching staff has said that they tanked must be worth investigating. Libba obviously isn't doing this for the 100% right reasons but the fact that he came out and said it must be worrying for CFC.

For me the fact that some players were sent off for early surgery and some young unknowns were selected is not the problem, that happens every year and if you can't make finals you may as well try and gain something for the next season. However if it is found that there were tactical coaching decisions made during game day that were made to ensure carlton lost then that is unforgivable.

If such a big deal was made about Roos with regards to a petty NAB match, then the AFL must certainly, at least investigate Libba's claims because the reward for Carlton's potential tanking was massive.

Now i fully expect Carlton fans to do what they have done during the last 18 pages and attack the fact that I am a Collingwood supporter rather than look at the information/alligations at hand but what do you expect?

Being honest?

ROFL.

If there was indeed tanking going on, why didn't he report it when it was apparently happening? Is there any coincidence he came out with this after the club sacked him for, well, being a shit assistant coach?

What do you think I'm doing in this thread?

Christ almightly, I'm not going to blabber on such a irrelevant thing as the club you support. Relax. :thumbsu:

What, a guy who openly admitted to tanking compared to a guy who talked about a "feeling"?

I know what I'd consider more admissable in a court of law :thumbsu:

(can't wait for the standard "Oh, he was only kidding" response)
your response remains the Carlton supporters main reply ..deflection

btw
Waldron said that the Saints were so bad that they didn't have to tank.
Said that they did similarly to what the pies did a few years back (got all their injured players fixed early and played the kids).
He called Carlton cheaters and tankers. Later apologised for calling them cheaters but did not retract on tankers part

Doesn't matter if he reported it yesterday, today or tomorrow. A witness is enough to sink a murder suspect and it's enough to sink you. :):thumbsu:

Didn't you see what just happened to Paul Roos? You going to get it a million times harder...

Geez, what a club!

sad that a club can tank and still beat your bunch of hacks ...you won a spoon and still missed the number one pick .
What did wallett say before the round 22 match last year ...oh thats right "he was conflicted on whether he wanted to win or lose " sounds like tanking talk to me .
how do you say "hypochrite' ?

If you had half a brain you would realise that libba spoke a lot but never said anything that contained any factual evidence ...he had a "feeling" does not constitute tangible evidence ...but i guess a moron wouldn't understand that .

Yes it does. An honest person would never keep something hidden like that... they would tell straight away.

A witness is enough to sink a murder suspect and it's enough to sink you. :):thumbsu:

Despite the fact that nothing he's said is admissible in court.

I could go to the police right now and say to them "I just have the feeling that sirlothie killed a man. Oh, I never seen him do it, or heard anything about him doing it... but I have the feeling that he did." Asserting a suspicion but not having anything to back it up with doesn't count as evidence. Sure, the police may follow it up as a precaution... but it's not a silver bullet.

Based on some "maybes" ?

Just wait and see, AFL will call Libba, and the rest of your mob in after that for a please explain.

Lance Whitnall is booked for A Current Affair tomorrow night to verify it already.

Floodgates have opened my friend, Carlton is in seriously hot water again, deny it all you want and expect draft sanctions and fines once again, and with your history and bringing the whole integrity of the competition into serious question once again, you will go down hard, the public will demand it. :):thumbsu:

Carlton certainly weren't the first club to tank and you can hardly blame them, such are the rules

The problem was it wasn't as subtle as other clubs have done in the past

As other posters have mentioned, you can live with clubs putting players into surgery and giving kids a go but onfield coaching tactics on game day is another thing

I remmember watching the Carlton Vs Essendon game last year and it just didn't seem right at the time. the last game of the season vs Melbourne was even worse.
