It's odd that we keep hearing that they are nursing him through the pre season, and pretty soon he would have had no pre season hit out..

I honestly thought we would see him in the side by NAB2.

Actually glad Hawk isn't playing, gives Kersten, Brown some responsiblity and chance to step up. Looking forward to seeing full games from a lot of guys!

I still refuse to believe that he's injured his hip, unless he has somehow done it between NAB 1 and now. There was simply no reason for them to put a 'Vardy is killing it and feeling 100%' news story on the website a day after the teams were announced, if he'd had a flare-up (article published a day after the NAB 1 teams were announced).

I understand that supporters are on a need to know basis sometimes with injuries (still get frustrated by it on occasion), but, if he is missing these games due to his hip, this would be an outright lie they've published on the website. And there was simply no need to, when there were literally dozens of other players they could have written a puff piece about.

Mummy missed a fair few games to injury though. Also played the GF under an injury cloud.

No doubt...West missed games too though and while being flogged into submission by the lack of a second ruck may have helped his hit-out totals somewhat, I reckon they actually hurt his possession tally, as he was too buggered (or too close to the ball) to provide a lead most of the time.

I'd take Mumford back in a heartbeat, given our current situation, but it's not out of the question that we've already seen the best of him.

My how I look forward to games at the cattery. I see we have named close to a full strength side. Now if you guys rest say...half your side - we may only lose by 30 points

West missed 2 games to Mummy's 8. Would love Mummy back as well as Ablett, exactly what we are missing 2012.

Hope Hmac can fill the role and Duncan doing a Beams/Dangerfield type rise would equal Jizz in ma pants!

terrific young squad!

Guess we need to also remember that Vardy did his knee at the end of last year so that along with the hip, it's fair to ease him back very slowly like we will with Menzel.
Club is hoping to see their best in 2016 and not 2013.

No Bathie is a very unfortunate, thought he was suppose to play this weekend?

Anyways, looking forward to watching Brown, Kersten, Hyphen, Hamling and Blicavs.

Guthrie may play midfield in the absence of Selwood as I can see Murdoch playing half back along with Eardley and Thurlow.

Looking forward to seeing Eardley play a full game. Love his attack on the ball.
Bring on Saturday already...I hate NAB1 for it's crappy rules, time constraints and having it stretch over 2 week...

Go Cats!

I would think Blicavs and Walker (whose this Waler fellow? Does he ruck?).
Hamling maybe a HUGE left field call...
The Waler is an Australian breed of riding horses that developed from the horses that were brought to the Australian colonies in the 19th century. The name comes from their early breeding origins in New South Wales; they were originally known as New South Walers.

...................Right.................

Can they ruck?

No Bathie, leaves Blicavs, Hamling, Waler to ruck?

Very much doubt we'll see Hamling ruck, even though that would leave only Blicavs and Walker to share the duties. Odd that Vardy has been omitted.

Still, can't help but look forward to seeing what these two/three can do- after all the NAB Cup provides a great chance to experiment with various players and different structures.

Guthrie may play midfield in the absence of Selwood as I can see Murdoch playing half back along with Eardley and Thurlow.

I was thinking this as well. Can see Guthrie potentially having a presence in the midfield, and Murdoch may be handy out of half back given his ability to break lines and generate run.

Really, like in the Grand Final? When he was close to worst on ground?

Actually it's not laughable, the empicial evidence - statistics - show it's pretty close.

Just embarrassing yourself now.

Mumford was injured a lot last year and even in the grand final.

Stats don't tell the full story especially in the ruck.

With the stats shown Mumford beats West for hitouts and clearances(kills him in tackles), but what's not show is time played in the ruck compared to playing forward. I'd assume Mumford played more time forward than West last year so he'd be even further ahead in hitouts and clearances.

Stats also dont show hitouts to advantage or hitouts to advantage vs. West really struggles against the bigger guys where Mumford does a lot better because of his bulk.

Is there anywhere you can get any info on who awards the votes and what criteria they actually use?

I had a PM that covered your query that unfortunately went to God when BF moved to XenForo. If CatsInsider still reads the forum he might care to confirm or vary the info.

Chris Scott convinced the club to change the formula to a more comprehensive and fairer one. Something along the lines of the way Brisbane does it. The bare bones from memory are:

* All 22 players are assessed on a zero to 10 basis.

* Each member of the Match Committee votes using that system.

* Votes from each players best 18 games are taken into account- to be fair to all players due to the rotation system.

* The assessment covers a number of key areas. Some of which those of us ‘outsiders’ would have no idea of such as how well a player carries out his assigned role. That probably explains Jimmeh’s solid showing despite many here saying throughout the year what a poor year he was having.;)

No Vardy? Really needs match practice (even a solid pre-season hitout) if he is going to contribute in the H&A season- we can't just expect to plonk him in the forward line or in the ruck without it.

Glad to see guys like Blicavs, Murdoch, and Hamling in the side- shows we're treating the NAB Cup as though we're getting an idea of what our best 22 in 2015-16 might look like.

Can I just add this Fred I think it's worth it.
The Waler Horse

McLeod-with-Walers.jpg

"… The majority of horses in the Corps were Walers and there is no doubt that these hardy Australian horses make the finest cavalry mounts in the world… They (the Australians) have got types of compact, well-built, saddle and harness horses that no other part of the world can show..."

This was the unbiased opinion of the English Cavalry Officer,
LtCol RMP Preston DSO, in his book: "Desert Mounted Corps"

His two goals in the Grand final were pretty useful from memory. What did they win by again?
Exactly. He can obviously kick goals yet was rarely picked throughout the year so that tells me that the Swans rate other attributes just as highly if not higher. You could argue that he should have played more throughout the year but considering that they won the flag i'm happy to support their philosophy.

  • Five coaches rate each player out of 20. Maximum votes for a game = 100
  • Best 19 games count to the final tally

Thank you, just been wondering.
