Re: Prelim vs Hawks

I remember Rioli and Franklin and I also think Hodge played but not sure

Last time they had at least Sewell, Lewis, Cyril and Stratton out from memory! Cant remember Shoenmakers playing either? Anyway we seem to be looking at 5 different players - thing is we need our big forwards to step up next Friday!

Re: Prelim vs Hawks

Its not going to be a 80 points walkover, but i think it will be a perfect match for us. I see us having strength in all areas on the ground. The only way i see us having trouble is massive games by hodge and Franklin. I believe we now have the backline system to take care of Buddy, and when it comes down to it, he can kick 4 or 5 goals in a easily beaten team the way they currently play. I would say a 5 goal win that will give us a bit of confidence heading into the big one.

We would win this game 8 or 9 times out of ten. Just need to be switched on mentally which i have no doubt about.

Re: Prelim vs Hawks

Ok this is bruce hoping for a miracle because the last time we played hawthorn we won by six goals.Alan didak ,dayne beams and ben johnson didn't play either but here the media go focussing on hawks again..

Dawes broke his knuckle and played as a decoy the rest of the day (although in this form he may only be a decoy)

With reid and tarrant their only weapon will be covered and without him kicking 5+ they wint kick a winning score

Barring beez politically correct post, we match of better them inside and outside in the middle and our forwards will dominate their defense

Ok, 3 reasons why Hawthorn can't, and won't win;

Can't disagree with you there.

Agreed, our defence should kill their forwards, our forwards should kill their defence, we have a better midfield than them (inside and out) but that wasn't my point. I was merely suggesting they have a good strong core midfield that has the ability to stop us being at our damaging best, if Hodge, Lewis et al. can break even in the middle, it will give them a much better chance at winning the game.

Some things in our favor:

- Hawthorn coming off two straight games against the Cats and Swans. Couldn't get two harder hitting teams in the competition (bar the Eagles). They're going to have some very sore bodies next week and if it's tight at three quarter time, I reckon we'll run away with it.

- Our forwards. Should really monster the Hawthorn backs and with Gibson forced to play tall and Schoenmakers not really ready to play on the elite forwards, this should be a plus for us. I used the word 'should' because historically Schoenmakers has some wood over Cloke. Cloke is a much improved player now though.

- OUR PACE. We are definitely a quicker side than Hawthorn but having said that, we are quicker than Geelong. Pace isn't everything, its the contested ball winning around the packs where this game will be won and lost. If we can get first hands and get the ball into space, I think we can expose them at the back.

This will not be a walk in the park and anyone who thinks so is quite ignorant. I think we'll win but it'll be a close one.

Pies by 17. :thumbsu:

collingwood by 7 goals. I cant see collingwood playing around anymore. Hawthorn wont be able to hold cloke an dawes, thomas and pendles will run amok.

franklin will get cleaned by by our backline and hawthorn will talk down ben reids performance again.

Re: Prelim vs Hawks

would have to play abosulte shite to lose. with everyone back in the side i cant see it happening. there are no weak links

wouldnt be too cocky, most people here said pies would of smashed eagles too.

They have a nice mid field and tricky forwards, the ball bounce against the pies can result to a goal to them easily.

Hodge killed the pies last time also.

Pies need to play good football to win this.

hodge played well against geelong last week as well. Only player that stands up when pressure is on

On paper we should beat every side in the comp.

In reality, we have bar one.

I expect that to continue next week.

I didn't watch the game, how did Buddy go? Move ok with that knee? They must've injected him with everything possible to get him out there, no doubt it will be hurting this week.

lisle is a chance next week, i think we will load up with the talls and not make the same mistake we did against the cats. Change things around a bit. Stratton in our backline makes it SIGNIFICANTLY better, is better than schoenmakers and murphy by himself. We could actually have a decent backline if clarko played guys he should be playing back there like lisle and cheney, from what i have seen of cheney he is better than murphy.

Im going in with no expectations at all really, in fact if we lose probably wont be that upset, this year were a good team but not the best team and the cattle we need to really challenge you guys will be sitting in the stands 1 in particular (roughead), next year we will be much more of a threat if we stay healthy in the big man department.

you guys are a great team but your list isnt head and shoulders the best, what makes you guys so good is the discipline and structures put in place which no team really knows how to dismantle except for maybe geelong. You do have excellent footballers having said that. Footy these days is alot about the game plan more so than the players on the park, stkilda is the prime example. I actually think we would be a better team with a different game plan, we have won alot of matches through talent more than anything else and not the specific game plan. As for how buddy went suprisingly well, jumped for his marks, landed heavily on his knee with no discomfort, finished the game full of running lost no pace whatsoever.

He moved fairly well but you could see he never hit top pace and quite a few times he didn't look overly confident, although he got better as the night went on. His kicking early on was pretty poor, then got a couple of gimmes towards the end.

All in all with another weeks rest he's still going to be a player to watch out for, but it does make our job of containing him a little easier.
