As I said, let's revisit this issue in 2 months when everyone can have rational discussion rather than emotional outbursts like your own.

I'm not emotional. I don't know any of the people in this arena and I view this with interest and historical significance. I'm completely dispassionate, so there's no need to make assumptions.

No one cares about corner cases in the ladder; its literally has the least weighting of all the factors at play. Even if the game was played, the result has been compromised, so there is no ideal result available. And no amount of revisionism, here or in two months, will change that.

Bulldogs might be robbed of getting finals experience.

A Draw:

7th Adelaide 12 wins, 1 draw 115%
8th Geelong 12 wins, 1 draw 95%
---------------
9th Bulldogs 12 wins 110%

Or if Adelaide won a rescheduled match:

7th Adelaide 13 wins, 115%
8th Bulldogs 12 wins 110%
------------------
9th Geelong 12 wins 95%
Who gives a **** who misses out on what?

At the end of the day, Geelong and Adelaide agreed to this and within the rules.

Trying to get an impact assessment on this decision for the rest of the season and the ladder is ridiculous.

The sad loss for the players at both Adelaide clubs (and indeed others who knew him well) will far outweigh plus /minus 2 points this weekend.

Get a grip folks

I wondered this too, what if Danger comes 2nd in the Brownlow by 2 votes?
Nothing can be done, they have made the best decision.

Whilst Dangerfield may be disappointed that he missed out on the Brownlow, I would think that being the decent human being he is, would put all of this into perspective, given a man has lost his life tragically and prematurely. Dangerfield still has time to shine, Phil Davis doesn't, and a family has been traumatized and possibly ripped apart.

Yes, but...

Who gives a ****?

A man is dead in tragic circumstances.

It's bigger than a game of footy for those involved.

And in any case there are only 18 teams.

Whilst Adelaide is obviously more effected than everyone else - a coach getting murdered mid season is a major issue that effects the entire league.

I know it seems unimportant right now... but when the dust settles in 2 months time, it's a real possibility that Geelong could finish 9th by half a game. The comp is so compromised now that this hardly rates as an issue. How does this differ from one club receiving a less favourable draw and missing the finals by 2 points.

In fairness to Geelong, I think they could have scheduled a make-up match after the final round in the lead up to the finals? are you serious

Disagree. I think it is the right decision.

We should have beaten Melbourne at Kardinia Park.
What a dumb post. What has losing to Melbourne got to do with it.

The game couldn't be played this weekend for obvious reasons. The afl should either cancelled the whole round or rescheduled the round/game at a later point for fairness to the draw. They have taken the easy option and dudded Adelaide and Geelong as a result. Of course Geelong had to go along with it as they would of become villian's if they didn't. Pity the pies, Hawks and the rest of the teams didn't do the same.

A mark of respect for Walsh and for the youngsters of Crows and Geelong. Good decision for the information and stage of grief to process and recover for the future.

Today, we truly fly as one.

I think you missed the original posters original comment about Geelong potentially missing finals due to the 2 points given in cancelling the game. I was pointing out that Geelong should have won that game rather then worry about focusing on the cancelled game if it came down to that.

And also I think the cancelling of the game is the best decision.

Not really. It means points would have been allocated for match play.

In this case, points have just been allocated according to rules for extraordinary circumstances.

Some folks are using the excuse here that neither Adelaide or Geelong are real contenders so it's moot anyway. These arguments are invalid Well, what if they were top 4 contenders? Does this variable change the views?

Frankly the rules are stuffed. The AFL sticks with a points system, but then compromises its effectiveness with these rules, no matter how extraordinary they may be.

If the AfL had a w/l ratio to rank teams rather than a points system, then perhaps the current rule would compliment it. Many folks discuss performance in wins and losses anyway.

But the rule doesn't compliment the AFL points system, it compromises it. 4 pts is just cliche anyway and persisted with because it has always done so.

Putting the events of this morning aside, the integrity of the League as a sports competition has been compromised yet again.
