What's the purpose of Hudson being named when Grundy is still in the line up?

Hudson has been playing as a forward come ruck in the vfl, on top of this North have decent rucks and we don't want to smash Grundy the week before finals.

This is Norths GF they have nothing to lose and everything to gain, I just hope we don't go into preservation mode as it's not good to flirt with form.

If Brisbane and Carlton both lose North will be playing with finals intensity this Sunday, it would become an elimation final for them.
If Richmond beat essendon, then we're basically not playing for anything other than a training run for the finals, not point ruining ourselves, risking injury for 4 points that mean nothing and hand a spot in the finals to the scum.
However if essendon win, I think it's important to nab 5th position and get out of hawthorns draw.

IS this the end for Jolly now? Should he just retire at the end of the year, it seems as though he isn't in our plans anymore.

The reason Hudson is named and not Jolly is that our VFL side plays the day before the AFL side, and so we're going to have to hold some players over as emergencies for the AFL.

It's actually still a positive for Jolly - They're making sure that he plays in the VFL rather than being held over to continue to give him a chance to show form and keep himself in the selection picture.

It will probably just be Beams in for Ball...however if its a dead rubber then Grundy might be spelled on the eve of finals. Todd Goldstein is one of the games best ruckmen so probably no need to expose Grundy to him when he has bigger things to worry about in the next month.

I don't want to drain the VFL team too much because we need them to win this week so we have guys like Young, Krakouer and Jolly getting another week and staying fresh if required.

I hope Martin and Russell play VFL because they have been important in that side.

I don't think Hudson would be a big loss because we are probably too tall with Jolly and Witts there as well.

They could play Hudson & Martin for half a VFL, then hold over for AFL Sunday as back up.
I am assuming the 3 emerg will be Hudson, Martin & Russell.
The problem with that is the VFL being an elimination final, we need 23 players not 21 & two halves, so maybe one of Martin or Russell may have to sit out the VFL completely.

Pretty solid changes and also pretty predictable.
You would think that there would only be one change this week though with Beams coming in for Ball.

Also, be good to keep Hudson, Russell and Martin in our VFL side for the first final.

How I would like to see us line up:

B - Maxwell Brown Williams
HB - Shaw Keeffe Seedsman
C - O'Brien Swan J.Thomas
HF - Dwyer Cloke Sidebottom
F - Didak Reid Lynch
R - Grundy Beams Pendlebury
INT - Macaffer Blair Kennedy
SUB - Goldsack

Grundy vs Goldstein be a Very Intresting Match Uo.

I tipped Pies by 40 pts

I don't think you will see it TD. Grundy to get a rest this week along with Dwyer and possibly Williams.

I highly doubt that mate. Grundy is named as the Number 1 Ruck for Sunday

I think they have picked a squad with the potential to rest players if needed. If our ladder position is set by Sunday why not give some of the younger players a rest? Grundy will have a big load to carry in the finals.

Well you could be Correct but I think Bucks would not stop players in good form. Could resting Grundy stop him Good Form he is in?

He doesn't strike me as a player that lacks confidence. Wouldn't you rather him fresh and hungry for the Port game? If we happen to lose narrowly to North after resting a few players I will not be concerned in the slightest. Our focus is solely on the Elimination Final.

50/50 Really. I leave up to Bucks and people at the Club to do what they think is best

That's all anyone can do Dave. It does seem odd that Hudson has been included. Regardless of the result of this game we will most likely be playing Port and then Freo in the semi-final, thanks to the free ride given to the Cats.

I was thinking Hudson be more a 2nd Ruck

That would surely mean that Lynch would be dropped which I cannot see happening. I think that Bucks is keen to add Hudson, Martin and Russell to the squad of players for the finals. With Elliott, Sinclair and Ball that gives us about 28 players for the finals which is about right. I don't expect Jolly to play again.

Lynch would be the More Likely to get Dropped out of Grundy and Lynch

Grundy would be rested not dropped. The only way Lynch would miss is through an unknown injury.

I know he be Rested but I think Grundy won't be given a Rest so he can keep his Touch

I would be very surprised if Grundy got rested. He doesn't appear sore or tired (due to long season as a first year) I think he just doesn't have the tank for AFL yet. Cannot see him running out games better if he gets rested. He has only played a handful of matches in the AFL
