Carlton would go for a small forward setup, so Hawksley should get the nod. He will be good to run with Betts, releasing McGrath for our rebound.

Polkinghorne for Buchanan I guess.

can see that happening, possibly even rockliff/polkinghorne in for banfield given he may take longer to recover than the senior players. all in all not a spectacular performance, but got the four points which was the main thing. liked banfield's debut, moved to the right places and used his pace well, certainly didn't seem to be any structural problems with brown and fevola.

Did Clarke have a bad game or play injured or did Voss not play him in the ruck that much? Thanks

Xavier Clarke is a month or so away yet.

Mitch Clark was not a well boy before the game and was touch-and-go to play.

Regurgitated a bowl of spaghetti and a couple of powerades during the warmup. Maybe a gastro thing.

Brown obvious relished being able to play as a true CHF again, and after just one game proven that anyone who thought he couldn't combine with Fev was clearly insane.

He also relished having just one direct opponent at times instead of three. :thumbsu:

Another guy who deserves a wrap is Trav Johnstone. I've loved his work down back throughout the pre-season and he transferred it well into the real deal tonight. He's rejuvenated back there, gets plenty of it and is very calm and composed in traffic. I felt very comfortable when he had the ball in hand. I think the urgency of the contests down back keeps him motivated and switched on for the duration of the match. His work rate is a huge improvement.

Please keep it up Trav and you'll get another contract.

I am sure I saw on the scoreboard late in the last quarter that the Lions had kicked the last 57 points. Fantastic effort considering how concerned I and many of the Lions faithful around me were midway through the third.

Hard to have three opponents hanging off of you playing as a true CHF :thumbsu:

You're right about TJ. He put in a really solid effort, I don't think I ever saw him waiting for someone else to do something.

Absolutely, he was very assured and composed with the ball tonight.

I appreciate it was Banfield's first game and yes he did a few ok things, however I was largely disappointed with his game. A lot of mistakes (as you would expect for a newbie) but he seemed to rush a lot, fumble and generally had poor disposal. I was most annoyed with what looked a shot from a tight angle when Power was in the goalsquare.

Brennan was absolutely stunning tonight, an absolute lock for 3 Brownlow votes. Brennan in our team...hands off Gold Coast!

The ruck duel ended up being a bit of a flop didn't it? Cox was unfit and Clark sick, they both had horrible games. NicNat ran out of legs and Leuey probably had the best all round effort.

Dissapointed that we didn't get to see all 4 fit and firing.

"That" goal from Brennan - was on the opposite side of the ground from me, but I'll be stuffed if he didn't nail that thing from at least 70 out - and didn't even look like he was trying... Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it...

wow, what a game, started sitting on the couch and ended up crouching on the floor haha.

Brennan, what can I say!!! My fav player for the last few years and thats what ive been waiting for, a game like that, if he can be around that mark every game, WOW what a season we will have! EXCITED. Oh and I thought Brennan and Nicknat are similar players but at this stage with Brennan being in his prime and Nicknat just beginning, Brennan won most of not all the contests they had, which just looked awesome haha! That will change in several years when Nicknat is in his prime and Brennan is an oldie.

FEV, i cannot wait for him to pick up his accuracy, imagined if he kicked 7.3 instead :D:thumbsu: Great game overall from fev, he fits in perfectly, will be a crowed fav in no time (if not already). I fell off the couch with that soccer goal he got, PURE CLASS :D:thumbsu:

Brown, Black, Power SOLID as ever, will only improve as the season goes on (especially black)

Sherman, Riska, Brennan (again), Second tier really stood up when it counted tonight, GREAT SIGNS!!!

Staker, Raines, Maguire, happy with all of them, again will only improve as the gelling of the team takes affect :)

Mcgrath, Drummond, Trav (hobo), Fantastic run out of the back, will be as good as last year if not better :)

Banfield, FANTASTIC first game, this bloke came outta nowhere as far as I am concerned, he really is the bonus of the season :D

Rich, Redden, Will only improve, I expect more from them in coming weeks

Slow starting game, but if we can play every quarter like we played that last one, we will be almost impossible to stop this season :D:thumbsu:

Looking forward to a much anticipated and thrilling season for the lions, with hopefully a top 4 finish!

GO LIONS :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I think I can sit back and smile smugle about Toddy. Was talking him before the draft and people were saying but you're a Swans man so doesn't count. Watch this kid, super speed and good skills I said. Obviously Vossy agrees, so far. Hopefully he keeps getting better for you guys and fulfills his potential. He's a beauty!:thumbsu:

Will have to agree to disagree on this one.

I was thrilled with him, I really was. Watching the TV replay may change my mind but geez he showed amazing signs and amazing intent for a debutant. Execution wasn't ideal and he stuffed up a bit on the finish but once he adjusts to the pace, he'll be an absolute gem!

Said again on the radio (NIRS, love the boys on NIRS!) that Drummo is with out doubt the best kick in the league. When will BF flogs realise this? :thumbsu:
