Interesting article: http://sportal.com.au/afl-news-display/voss-wants-form-88098

"(Todd) Banfield has popped his head up and Tom Rockliff has done the same - and that starts to put pressure on other players in terms of winning their spot for round one."

Banfield, a standout performer for the Lions across the pre-season, could be in line for an AFL debut, with Voss firmly of the opinion that form over the past few weeks would count more than anything else.

Grimbo, just wondering what you think the chances are of Banfield and/or Rockliff playing in round 1 are?

Dont think Sheldon has really put his hand up over the pre season. There is just too much competition for spots in the 22 atm, but this is a great thing to have.

Really looking forward to the first game this weekend. Does anyone know if there is a curtain raiser and if so, who it is ?

Been injured. Hasn't even played a ressies scratch. Not in contention.

vs. Gold Coast.

Beat me to it Mr R - on both.

Sheldon has not played an NAB game – I think it would be most unlikely for SoKS to be selected – if he were a top line player like Black, Brown or Power your questioning might be more realistic.
As Voss has suggested current form is what he is judging selection on, with greater depth this year Sheldon and others will need to earn selection not expect it.

I wasn't aware he was injured...what sort of injury is it?

Hi everyone, I know that BF is a great source of all things Lions but don't forget the official Club website - lions.com.au!! To find out why Sheldon isn't playing, who else is injured, when they're expected to return, who we're playing in the curtain raiser and which of our Lions could be playing a milestone match, click here :) :

Also, MacMum you'll be pleased to know that Notting will be doing a lap of honour before the match this Saturday.

"Notting played 207 matches during his accomplished AFL career which spanned 13 seasons. He was drafted from Stawell in country Victoria with Pick No.26 at the 1996 AFL National Draft - the Lions' first as a merged entity - and made his senior debut against Essendon at the MCG in Round 8 of 1998."

For those like me who go to training, info on where and when this will be held this week is also found in the same article on the Club website lions.com.au. :thumbsu:

GO LIONS!!! LLIIIIIIIIOOOOONNNS! LLIIIIIIIIOOOOONNNS!

P.S. Did you know that the Weagles have the best record of any AFL Club against the Lions? Recent history of the two Club's Head to Heads is also on the Lions' website. Did I mention that it's lions.com.au? ;)

Anything less than a heroic Brent Staker speccy mark and goal from 55 metres out on the final siren to give us victory by a point is as bad as a loss in my book.

Im actually honestly scared that that will happen! :D Despite what a lot of posters may say around here, Brent Stakers best footy is ahead of him! :thumbsu: Although he'll probably play on, sell himself into trouble, then snap the goal from the boundary line from 50! :D:p

Really looking forward to this one, will be a cracker of a game. I am interested to know a couple of things however.
Over the preseason we have trialled NicNat in the forward line, and although he hasn't turned into our star full forward, hes popped up with a few goals, and his pressure off the ball is very good. Would you guys have a plan for that should it happens at some point this week?
& the other question.
In your opinion, is there one guy in particular you guys would need to stop in order to win?? I ask this as we have had a 'who is the most underrated' thread on our board lately, and although I wouldn't expect you guys to know the ins & our of our side, just wondering if you as a neutral obeserver thought there was someone that if you stopped would help you in your cause to win..

FWIW I think you guys will win by 1-2 goals. I think it will go down to the wire though, with you guys breaking away in the first 15 mins of the 4th to get a lead you guys won't relinquish.
Heres to a top game! :thumbsu:

Forget MacMum... Nigelicious and I will be wiping away tears.

My predication is:

Rockliff - IN
Banfield - OUT

Note that I say that with minimal conviction.

I suspect Clark'd just drop back.

And which season regulars from last year do you predicate ( ;) ) will be missing out?

Polks and the aforementioned Sheldon?

All indications seem to be that Raines'll be in too. I just can't figure out how, without throwing out team balance or dropping a more "senior" player. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

My Round 1 team:

B: Adcock, Merrett, McGrath
HB: Patfull, Maguire, Drummond
C: Brennan, Rich, Johnstone
HF: Sherman, Brown, Staker
F: Buchanan, Fevola, Power

R: Clark, Black, Rischitelli

I/C: Leuenberger, Polkinghorne, Redden, Raines

EMER: Banfield, Stiller, Cornelius

So, Toddy Banfield is close to a debut is he? Love the bloodnut, super quick, very good skills and from Swans!:D

Hope he gets a guernsey very soon.:thumbsu:
