Im furious, I couldn't believe what I was watching. Some very poor preformances and umpiring today. Incredibley soft for melbourne, you could even see Lukey was getting sick of it as well.

Hey, anyone know where DanielCanberra has been lately?

(I know, it is off topic, but what the heck:D)

I think blaming the coach for having a player loose can sometimes be the same as blaming the coach for every missed kick. Leigh could've had a player who had the role of taking out Green, but whether they were doing it well at all is a different story. Also, many times before we have been able to deal with a loose player back by having Drummond be so damagin for us in the same position. Today we didn't have that pressure.

Honestly the flattest I have felt after a game since the 2004 GF. But if we learn from this loss I can live with it. Just shows no matter who you play you have to be at top form or you will pay a price.

Can't wait till our next game just to get this day behind us.

does anyone think the umpiring was shit?????????????????????????????????
Like I know we played unbeliveably pathetic although thumbs up for selwood, but seriously now im one to ignore the imbusils running around but today it was incredibley softttt!!!!!!!!!! It was like they were reffing a u/12s game, and it was all melbourne melbourne melbourne and quiet obvious things like selwoods head in the ground in a head lock was considered normal??, and when drummond touches the guy on shoulder its like its the most horrible thing they have ever seen?
sorry but im pissed off

Players were off color. Somehow got themselves to 11 points ahead. Coach couldve done something to protect it in the end, which for some reason he didn't. No one doubts Leigh's coaching skills here, he could've done more to change the end result today.
Ah well, bring on the Bombers. Cmon Lions !!

Umpiring was poo both ways today.

We got a few, they got a few. I am almost sure they would say they were robbed, and we could say the same.

Final free kick count was very close (23-22 or something like that), just in our favour.

Poor decisions certainly cost us the game, but I fear they were not made by the umpires:eek:

There is also a school of thought that suggests if what you are doing has put you in a winning position then stick with it. We have seen teams go from trying to win the game and trying to protect the game and backfiring.

Well put Grim.

Shouldn't have lost either way. The chipping around stuff scares me anyways.

I was sitting in the MCC Reserve today SURROUNDED by Melbourne supporters. When we were trailing by 24 points and playing hopelessly, we got a string of three goals, all from free kicks. The Melbourne supporters were absolutely filthy. Being at the game it's always hard to tell sometimes where the free is coming from, and at the time the Rischitelli knock to the head looked like the only legitimate free.

It did bring us back into the game which annoyed Melbourne, considering we hadn't even looked like scoring.

Overall, very dissappointing performance by almost everyone aside Power and Brown. I think it's a big loss we had to have, with our next four games very winnable - but as loseable as todays game. This is the kick in the pants we needed.

If there is one thing I am pleased about - is no meaningful threads cropping up everywhere trying to put every off-color player under the microscope.
There's always next round. :)

crap in defence.
Whats leppitsch teaching them, to much handballing and tricky stuff thats gets them into trouble.

These comments piss me off to be honest. Our defence has been rock-solid this year and then people ignore that and instead judge them completely on one game.

The constant turnovers in the midfield put our defence under substantial pressure.

Everytime they showed Melbourne supporters on tv - even when they were leading - you could see they still expected to lose... that cant be a nice feeling.

Ah well... its safe to say that if we feel bad the guys would feel worse. This really is an 8 point loss given everyone else has been beating them, so I'm sure that wont be lost on them or Lethal...

Our best is as good as anyones I'd reckon and I think thats why it hurts to lose a game like this... and maybe they just fell victim of easy win syndrome... I hope so anyway.

The lesson... take no win for granted... and I must admit I fell victim to that myself this week... so how could they not??

Anyways, a week to rest and reset... and then on with the job. I'd reckon it just might be what the doctor ordered...:thumbsu:

From what I saw/heard today
Lions problem - hard to score due to demons flooding. Dont know how many times I heard Green marking it as the last line of defense, Cutting off leads etc..
Demons strength - too easy passage to score when they enter the F50.

Inspite of this scenario holding sway over the entire match, we managed to hit the lead in the end. I wont expect our problems to go away, but would definitely looked at making it hard to score for demons.

If we didn't hit the lead in the end, it wouldn't be hurting so much. Damn.

Yep gotta agree TBD... and even today our defense held up no doubt. It could have been a lot worse if it hadnt been for the guys down back.

We got smashed in the mid field and the clearances... so its impossible to cover a whole section of the team with another. Thats why its is team...

Was at the game today and was really disappointed the way the boys played today. Today it looked like we didnt want to play as team, it was as if players were waiting for somebody else to there job. I only noticed two shepards for the game and a small number of one percenters. In the last quarter with only two minutes left and 11 points up, i was surprised and annoyed that we didnt put a lose man into the backline especially when Brennan was lose on the wing because Green had gone lose into the Brisbane backline. It seemed to me that our game plain today to run and carry the ball and have a lot of numbers behind the ball is not suited to the MCG. I was continually annoyed at how easy the ball was able to come out of our forward line because there was no one at Brown and Bradshaws feet to go after the ball or apply pressure on the Melbourne defenders on the way out. The most annoying thing to come out of the game today was that we didnt play as a team and we played as individuals

I think that this result will give a wake up call to those players who just stood there and didnt try, and that if we want to make the finals and go deep into the finals that we have to play as a team and everyone has to give 100%

I wasn't able to be at the game as I am currently fairly incapacitated but is too simple to suggest that Brisbane were just playing for the break? I would have thought that is the most obvious explanation for your effort today

Don't think so, its more that Melbourne's pressure magnified our already sub-par skills and we just couldn't get our own game going.

Same thing that happened against the Bulldogs.

Dont know how many times I heard Green marking it as the last line of defense, Cutting off leads etc..

I think the plan was to let them play a loose man back, and back our guy (Drummo) to be more damaging. Unfortunatley Drummo had a shocker and when it was apparent that it was not his day he ended up going to Green.

I went to the game with wife and boys and left very disappointed.
Umpires - poor, especially no 16 Mr Dick, don't think he gave Lions one free kick. Although umpires not entirely to blame.
It's frustrating by not the number they give but the ones they miss......

IMO - Lions players spent too much time handballing to teammate that was standing still and was in close check by an opponent. Too much handball or kicking across the ground instead of going forward. Twice we played well, first goal to Browny and the second time late in theird quarter when Charmo won hitout to Rischa, long kick to Bradshaw, who then goalled.
Great last quarter but even though we hit the lead, would not have deserved the win. Melbourne were hard at it, laying tackles non stop.
Well done Dees :thumbsu:
As for Brisbane, can't call this the loss we needed to have, I thought that was the Bulldogs game......
Overall team performance not up to standard, way too much handling of the ball, not enough fast movement into forward line. Kicking efficency was poor. Cannot blame the coach for not protecting the lead in the last two minutes, what do you have players for?? Two posters, one by Brown at half time and then Charmo in the last, can't our players nail those from tight boudary shots?? That's frustrating!!
