I think I have come around to the drop Fevola movement.

Fevola out, Cornelius in.

We need to give Fev a big wake up call to get him revved up for next year. Leaving him out of the side for a week or even three mightn't be such a bad thing.

Yep you couldn't blame him for today's loss, with a record low number of inside 50's. But he brings nothing to the table when the side isn't playing well. At least Cornelius got up the ground last week, and just look at the few great things that Browny does even when the side is down.

His output as a whole is just not good enough. Injured or not, at the moment he is a liability.

Banfield needs a rest also. Sherman and Collier must go. A couple of others are borderline.

One of those players that only plays well in a decent side, almost a passenger. He'd be a star of the competition if he played for Geelong. It's no coincidence that his form fluctuates with Brisbane's
Tis an interesting call – and before Sherman becomes the ‘target for the week’ would you rate him higher or lower than say a Varcoe? In a team game, or specifically, playing in a team that is regularly winning there would obviously be a higher percentage of players successfully contributing to a net result.
Shermo has rarely played the role of a sole match winner, I see Varcoe in the same boat, they are both clearly second tier players.
IMO you can’t justify flaming the 2nd tier – the finger ought to be pointed firstly to the top level.
e.g – Ablett, Bartell, Corey had ‘ordinary’ games vs the crows - so do their supporters point the finger at Varcoe? No.
With Black out, Brennan, Power and Rischa and maybe a Rockliff/Redden become you your 4 major mids. By experience only one would think Shermo might be placed in the middle but this has not been his major role this year. [I should clarify I HAVE NOT yet seen footage of todays game, doubt I’ll chase it in a hurry – so please correct me as deemed fit]

Positive: I didn't get to watch the game and forgot to record it.

Negative: I've got to write up the preview for next weeks game..

I doubt too many think the same as me but... considering another non-footy link TFB? ‘The Cure’

For anyone that has watched the last twelve weeks of Lions games - there is virtually nothing that could be said that could realistically defend Sherman's position in the team at the moment.

It is as simple and as complicated as that.

He doesn't need to be a star, just give a full effort at every contest.

He is not doing that, not in the slightest. He is adding nothing to the team. In fact he is a big liability out there. And this has been going on for months.

Is it just me or is Rich one of the laziest players in the AFL?
He never looks as if he wants the ball and only really jogs when he has it.
HOW ABOUT RUNNING AT THE BALL RICH!!!!!!

He will be at the Gold Coast next year anyway. Then the Lions can tag him and he will do little for the GC.

The Lions have been pathetic this year.... The players need to show some heart, tackle and run at the ball. Sure the injuries have hurt us but SHOW SOME HEART!!!!!!!!!!!
While I am on a rant, get rid of Mitch Clarke. When he is in our ruck, he either taps to oppostion or loses every tap.
The Berger has been great. Keep him and Charman next year. At least Jamie and Berger show some balls.

Classy. Looks like I might be supporting GC next year after all, given they're going to have Rischatelli, Brennan, Sherman, Rich, Fevola, Cornelius and anyone else I may have missed. It'll feel like old times!

Hopefully in Vossy's eyes we no have hit rock bottom, because it is only after you hit rock bottom can you change your direction. Personally i think Vossy should put a line through the names of

Selwood
Raines
Johnstone
Collier
Sherman

Their seasons are over as far as i am concerned, with a massive question mark over their ability to stay on the list next year.

Once he has assessed his outs he needs to look at his ins

Proud- last chance saloon, exhibits traits that we require in our team, he is your chance

Cornelius- Now must surely play regardless of structure etc,

Beams- State rep on the back of one season last year, if Vossy has any inkling that he can play AFL then we should play him

Structure

The Clark and Luey thing isn't working, Luey has now jumped Clark as our number 1 ruck, Clark needs a role, CHB is the only spot available in my opinion. Maguire was good today, Merrett either needs a spell in the 2s, a rest or a break from fullback, Maguire could play Fullback. Merrett needs some respite.

Once again i firmly believe the Fev trade (no fault of fev) has been a negative for our club. Vossy needs to make some big decisions or else the wheels will continue to fall off and a head will be on the chopping block.

If our game is chosen for this tuesdays chooseday night game, I hope Vossy and the team sit and watch the 2002 Grand Final together....some of the boys would only have been around the 11,12,13yr old mark..

They might learn how a REAL team wins its games....and Vossy might remember what it takes as well, and demand more from them..

Did anyone see today on the fox coverage when Tony Shaw asked Vossy what he had learnt over the last 10 weeks and Vossy basically said that it is good for people to have opinions but dissent won't be tolerated.

I found this to be a strange response. Did i misinterpret what he has said?

Not going to get an argument from me re his form, only suggesting to single out Sherman as a 2nd tier player has cost us the game is just scapegoating. If the effort at the contest was as low as you suggest then Proud would be a logical replacement and a spell in the twos for Shermo may well be on the cards.

He definitely wasn't the only one. You could tell from the first bounce that the Hawks were up and we had not come to play. Very few of our players had any sort of intensity towards the ball.

The reason Sherman cops it is because, unlike some of the others, his intensity / ability to even engage in a contest has been completely missing for quite a number of weeks in a row now.

No you didn't. It confirmed what I had unfortunately been feeling for awhile.

This is terminal.

Or they could just put on the DVD in the players' bar. ;)

Can someone please tell me how raines and buchanan got 3 year deals????

I mean raines couldnt get a game at the tigers for only the last 2 years and
amon gets a 3 year deal at 28 and after coming off a reco

I sincerely hope robbie kerr does a better job in or kids development or we r in
massive strife on field and off.

Sat through the whole thing. Not sure why, tbh.

Negatives:

Sherman- requires immediate dropping.

Collier- thus far, does not appear as though he'll make the grade in any form.

Johnstone- didn't see enough of it. Too many costly skill errors from a senior, skilled player. I'm not normally a Travis-basher, but he was awful ordinary today.

Banfield- needs a rest. Can't question his work rate or endeavor, but I think the season has taken it's toll on him.

Merrett- had a stinker today. Needs to be a leader.

Positives:

Brown- will never get sick of watching him go back with the flight, taking those courageous chest marks. Classic Brown today.:thumbsu:

Brennan- had some of his flair back, which has been missing since his injury. Hopefully back in form..

Berger- Another good game from big Luey

I don't think the Fev bashing is appropriate. I saw his chasing and at one point his efforts caused a turn over which we goaled from. When your team has what, 22 I50's for a game (and about 2 clean ones!), your full forward is never going to tear them apart.

Staker tried his heart out as usual, so glad we have him atm.

Listen "thecubs08" , Raines didn't even play today.

...and Buchanan was far from our worst.

Posts like yours give me the shits.

We got smashed today because our midfield couldn't even get close to competing.

Crapping on about a halfback flanker who didn't play and a small forward who was starved of opportunities....well it's totally irrelevant, illogical and does nothing to address the real problems

Unfortunately, I agree. This is not going to end well, some heads need to roll.

The club (post-merger) is at the lowest ebb in its history and something drastic needs to happen, sooner rather than later. Inaction will cause more damage and dig the club into a deeper hole that could take many years to climb out of.

Sometimes we have to be honest with our assessments of recruiting
and signings that we have at our club in the off season.
