Mooooooons!! Looking forward to seeing how he goes, but I'm lowering my expectations.

Bring on the 'too slow' and 'too old' comments with that side.

Emergencies are Motlop, Cowan and Guthrie.

In: Mooney Johnson Ling Ottens
Out: Podsiadly (soreness) J Hunt (back) Byrnes (calf) Cowan

Decent changes.
Was hoping Nathan Vardy would get up, but that aside i'm comfortable with all those changes.

I'm expecting one (or perhaps two) of Corey, Chapman and Stokes to be late withdrawals, with a couple of the kids getting another chance before finals.

Re: Pods has facial soreness...

I've just re-watched the game and Pods certainly took a really hard knock to the head. Besides which he was taken to have facial scans to rule out any hairline fractures a la Jonathan Brown. So not surprised he has a sore face. And if there is any risk to his well-being he should have the week off to recuperate - who knows he may have been suffering headaches.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stokesy is a late withdrawal on Saturday. He took a couple of head knocks during the game besides the one that ko'd him in the last quarter. It happened right in front of where I was sitting and looked horrible. Couldn't bear to look.

So unlike the OP I think the Cats are being very wise in their player management and getting the squad in good shape for the finals and I don't care what reasons they cite for player management. It's no laughing matter, at all.

Ok...I'll bite. Looks old and slow.
That side hopefully bears no resemblance to our QF team in 2 months.
Melbourne's pace could seriously bother us this week with this team in.
Still should win but there is a definite weakness to exploit.
Varcoe better ****ing star!!
We will seriously miss Pods. Has been soaking up a LOT of defensive attention.

Re: Pods has facial soreness...

Hit to the face aside, i've no doubt that Pods is 'sore'.

The guy has been our major (and at times, only) focal point for months now and has basically been holding down the forward line on his own, resulting in often being double and triple teamed.
He'd be sore alright.

Being double or triple teamed would make you sore I guess.

Lot of tough hard bodies in that team - not many who do not go hard at ball and take no prisoners. May be a little slow but sufficient skill to overcome that particularly on the fairly narrow home ground.

West is being given great chance - he showed he can really take a mark and is pretty strong. Probably lacks the spring and agility of Vardy but is not without a chance of staying in if he keeps it up. Wojinski in back pocket is very interesting - he may pencil his name in there for finals if goes okay as some teams with very fast small forwards will worry us on MCG.

Mooney is good to go....he has been they most consistent forward in the VFL over the last 6 weeks and I'm impressed with clubs stance on getting games into him before attempting the seniors again. I think he will put in a very good performance.

Yep, does look rather slow though. Dissapointed that menzel didn't get up, but hopefully next week. Chapman must be due either this week or next for a rest....was very ordinary last week!

Would like to see Duncan resume his role across half back / defensive mid again, looked very impressive last week. Bundy through the middle is also a must!

I'm tipping Milburn as the sub.

sorry vd, but a loss against melbourne is indeed an insult, as it definitely was against essendon. They're crap and we should try and pummel them into oblivion. Carlton demonstrated quite clearly how essendon should be treated by a quality side, which we were unable to do. Time we rectified that this week.
had we played bombers without fletcher and hocking, we would have won

Re: Pods has facial soreness...

The lols are being had here surely. Geelong excuses for withdrawing players from games is just plain silly. I'm amazed he didn't have a run in with the general

Did you miss last weeks game ?
If he's a bit sore why bother risking him in a meaningless game ?

Wished we could have the bye. We need to be fresh to show the Blues next week that we do not play bruise free footy! You guys are awesome though. I highly respect Geelong and would really like to venture to Skilled Stadium one day and check out Geelong the town/city.

Just on Menzel, I understand it is back related, if so need to be cautious. The player he reminds me of, Paul Lynch, had disastrous luck with back related hamstrings. We want the comparisons to end with smooth approach to game!

Dan's issue is 'just' his back, it's not hamstring related.
Totally different situation to the one that plagued Paul Lynch.

Yep spot on.

Definitely time for him to have a week off, hasn't had one since round 1.

Team is taking shape.

Eventually we could see...

Podsiadly for Mooney
Vardy for West
Menzel for Wojcinski

T Hunt, J Hunt and Wojcinski are all worthy but none will force Milburn out merely on pace. If any of them were superb one-on-one defenders they'd have a better case.

I agree, but I would rather see Menzel play forward.
If shit hits the fan we can throw Corey or Kelly back, even Duncan.

Agree.

It's good to have multiple options though.

I'm hoping we don't get completely pasted..

Not a dees fan bobby?

I didn't realize my comments would be quoted:eek:......I must sound like a typical Magpie or Blues supporter who values my own team like they should be prayed upon like a religion.

I didn't call them bruise free footy myself but I stated what Carlton said because it just seems to me that Melbourne always need motivation in order to put in a great performance. I can't understand how they can consistently get belted every 2nd or 3rd weekend by over 45 points or more. They now have a large crop of talent whom have played over 40 games of footy along with quite a few senior blokes with 3 or 4 seasons. If I was a Melbourne supporter I'd also be very critical of Sylvia, Rivers even some of the younger more talented players of Jones, Bate just haven't gone from being gun players to leaders and constantly pushing themselves when things are not going the teams way. I know Rivers has been injury prone and had little support for a couple of years but he turns the ball over far too much for a senior player.
My best mate is a Melbourne supporter, loves them with all his heart...they can either make his week or literally stink it up and as a friend I get frustrated for him whenever they play anyone of true quality. It's almost as if they concede defeat before they even give it a true go for at least 3 quarters of football. I will admit that injuries have been very critical though and Melbourne would have to be amongst the top 3 for most injuries this season along with Fremantle and probably Hawthorn. I have seen what that can to do a team especially a younger team which Melbourne is but I just can't help noticing the rise of other teams around Melbourne and fear for my mates sake that they will again have to try and outplay another team at the peak of their powers in the Suns given 5 years from now. Dees need to make the move right now and stick to it, forget the party lifestyle and pleasurable addictions that AFL players have thrown at them on a weekly basis;) because the Melbourne fans deserve to see consistent football about time.
Do like Watts though, still believe he'll turn out to be the better player out of Naitanui and him by the time they retire.
