I would think Stiller will get the job on Pearce. As somebody else mentioned, Stiller has the engine to go with Pearce, so I suspect only Brennan and Adcock will require replacing. Therefore, Rockliff and one of Hawksley/Hanley/Selwood to come into the side.

Even though tagging the clearance player would seem to be top priority for us, i can see Stiller on Pearce as a better match up. Pearce plays an outside role as well, and it Stiller can keep him honest it will help us. I'm happy for our clearance mids to just go head to head with theirs, assuming we dont end up with Patfull and Stiller as 2 of our 3 mids again.

Would Drummond be the player the kop the Kane Cornes tag? He uses the ball so well and from the limited time I have seen of you guys, delivers around the Brown area.

I thought Drummond and Johnstone would be the tagged players, is that correct?

Johnstone has predominantly been playing as a half back flanker this year and Drummond probably slightly in front of him. You could make an argument for trying to limit the impact and tag Drummond with a negating type role, although I would be very surprised if he commanded someone of the calibre of Kane Cornes. I highly doubt you would tag Johnstone, but like most sides, including Brisbane, you want your forwards being somewhat accountable for the rebounding type defenders anyway.

If Port go the megaflood they will lose IMO. We'd have to be one of the fittest teams in the comp, and they'll be out on their feet in the last quarter if they go with this tactic all game. We'll just push them over like Homer during his boxing career. :thumbsu: Many times last year when teams flooded or used a full field zone they ran out of legs and we ran over the top of them. :)

My tip: Port by 25.

Our counter to the megaflood?

Brown, Fev, Staker, Drummond, Rich who all consistently kick goals from outside 50.

D.Motlop on the sidelines with a hammy? Should be a soda then... ;)

Didn't Port have a big list of outs last time we played them at AAMI? C.Cornes, D.Motlop and a few others missing?

I reckon Port will win this week (and I would not be surprised if they won comfortably). If we happen to beat them, I will be very pleased with our performance indeed.

Being picky but its more likely going to be Rockliff in for Brennan and Hawksley and Proud aren't the same type of player. Hawksley would be a better replacement because with Proud we will be one defender down.

Don't see why there's so much suggestion that Stiller won't be in the team. He's not a great footballer but the last game was no different to a lot of his other games last year that he didn't get dropped for.
Yeah I know Proud and Hawksley are completly different players. I worded my post wrong, sorry. Proud, Rockliff and Selwood in for mine. Adcock, Brennan and Stiller out.

I mean't that the Lions will either go with Proud or Hawksley. Clearances or reboud out of defence(which we have loads of)thats why I went with Proud because I belive he can win us some clearances and I think we need more of that than rebound out of the 50.

Cheers mate, LS!

Yeah I'd be surprised to see Stiller dropped as well. Particularly if Adcock misses.

Rockliff will surely come in. Hawksley more likely than Polkinghorne, I'd think.

This is not a game I'd expect to win, to be honest. Port have the big defenders to keep Brown or Fevola from breaking the game open, and while Tredrea and Schulz are unlikely to kick a stack of goals they have a number of small forwards and midfielders who can kick a decent score between them.

We can't afford to get beaten in the clearances again. Clark and Leuenberger will need to improve if they're going to stop Brogan giving the Power midfielders first possession.

Most seem to underrate Chaplin and Carlisle. Whilst they are still developing they are alot better than previous years, so I think they should provide a good even contest. If Brown is on like he was last week it doesn't really matter who is on him though does it.

I am pretty confident we will win the game as long as the stretcher isn't called out by port everytime we get some momentum.

1. The come from behind win late last year will give them some confidence and we were with them at 3 quarter time in the game in Adelaide last year
2. Our defence has improved a lot and is there any word from someone in the club that Adcock is definitely not playing yet?
3. Defensive pressure in the forward line, Fev and Banfield add so much more to the team when an opposition rebounds than Bradshaw and Hooper ever could.
4. We've had a huge break for the game
5. Our fitness or ability to break teams in the 4th quarter and Port only just held on for a win against WC and led North by at least 50 points in the 3rd quarter before only winning by 16 points.

This is a danger game because it's a game against a team we should win if we are going to be a top team this year, but if port aren't taken seriously they can and will beat us.

Drummond will get a run with player I think, not a top tagger but just someone to shut down his space. If port aren't going to give the spare man in defence like other clubs it means one on ones for our forwards if we move the ball quick enough.

I have a good feeling going into this game, but im still a little worried.

Whilst I dont think that Stiller had a great game versus the Blues, I can't see him being dropped with two likely forced changes in Adcock and Brennan.

Whilst Rockliff seems like a given I would not be surprised to see Austin come into heavy consideration, with Hawksley, for Adcocks spot, he seemed like a bit of a Vossie favourite last year.

I agree that 2 changes may be more likely than 3, but Hawksley really did look very good playing against the GC. He really was noticeably a class above most of the others.

I am so shattered that Brennan will be missing this game. He has been in good form in the past two weeks and with our midfield being smashed in the clearances last week, he is going to be a big loss.

Im just remembering last year when we played Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, they smashed in the centre clearances. If we do not atleast even up the clearances we will be in for one long saturday afternoon. Hopefully Voss and Co can figure something out.

I really hope Rockliff can come in and have a good game.

Am I the only one who whenever they see “Carlisle and Chaplin” reads “Charlie Chaplin”?
No

Good write up, always good clashes between the 2 teams, have alot of respect for the Lions from our rivalry 2001-2004. Tipping you guys to win it this week, im trying to picture us stopping brown and Fev but i cant see it happening.

Brisbane by 28+.....damn your forward line :p
Thanks, but I think it will be much closer, whichever way it goes.

I always worry, especially after a certain game against the Dees a couple of seasons ago.

Also, this is a our first away game for the season.

Congrats and good luck to Worm on the ton this weekend. Hope the boys can have win for his milestone. :thumbsu:

A few players maybe in doubt for this weekends clashes. :(
My lips are sealed until after the team is named. Sorry kids.
