Game Day AFL Round 6 - Collingwood vs Essendon Matchday Discussion (ANZAC DAY)

we really have to win this game by a big margin if we want to start being noticed as a genuine threat to the top teams. GIven the amount of players essendon are currently missing, there is no reason why we should not absolutely smash them today.

I'm absolutely pumped for this match! The team is in good form and very settled with its current side. Essendon on the other hand is out of form after seeing their last two matches and they seem to have some selection issues at the moment with some important players for them out of the side.

The thing that may stop us from winning today is Essendon's pace. So it's important early on that we make their pace a liability! However Essendon is missing crucial players in Goddard, Hocking, Bellchambers and potentially Jobe Watson if these rumours about him having gastro are true, so all those outs are massive and will give us a huge advantage. After seeing these missing players listed you'd have to be confident of a victory today!

I must say I'm quite confident of us performing well on the big stage today. I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing but I'm feeling very excited about the prospect of being 4-2 after today hopefully. We've come off a strong victory against North Melbourne where we tackled our hearts out and our overall ball usage improved from previous weeks. About 6-7 of our players will really need to perform today if they want to retain their spot in the side because demand for spots are increasing and after some good performances from the VFL that can only be a good thing. An unchanged line up is always a good sign of a settled and confident side, but pressure for spots will result in players attempting to have strong games to retain their spot in the side today.

This is a big day on the football calendar and for Australia in general so it's a privilege to play on this day every year. After a poor showing on ANZAC Day last year I hope the boys are breathing fire today! It's a beautiful sunny day, it's a Collingwood home game and we're in good form. What's not to be excited about.

Absolutely pumped and I have no doubts that both of these sides will want to start well so don't be surprised if it's even early on but I can see us having a breakout quarter and winning by a few goals.

Pies by 32 with Beams to win the ANZAC Day Medal for best on ground!

Heading off to the ground soon! Can't wait :)

GO PIES! :D

With all these outs for Essendon and bringing in Dempsey and maybe Bell-Chambers, I cast my mind back to 2007 when Cupido of all players kicked 5 against us. I said to a mate that this prick will kick a bag today and he bloody did. Hence I'm somewhat conservative when it comes to a margin. It'll be closer than what many of us think. On paper we should win but to the Bombers posters in here, don't give up the ghost yet and GTFO! :p

We should beat them in the middle.

Pendles-Beams-Swan-Sidey-Maceffer-Ball-Thomas- all in form against

Watson-Stanton-Heppell-Zaharakis-Melksham- all out of form except Stanton.

They used to have midfield depth but with Myers, Hocking and Goddard not out their depth is ordinary.

All of our emergencies Dwyer, Adams and Brown would be a monty for selection in the Bombers team.

We should win and win well, but it's ANZAC Day.

Watson is not really out of form, he has just been played out of position. He is a gun player and will go a long way to helping our chances if he does not play today.

Watson is a champion. Full agree, and I don't keep up with Essendon but he's been well down one way or another the past two weeks.

No offense Jobe, but I hope you've got your head permanantly stuck down the toilet sink this morning, and get well soon. :thumbsu:

I wouldn't be surprized if Jobe out is a false rumor perpetuated by Essendon officials to make our players over-confident.
Won't work, everything is so well planned that a late change or rumour of a change won't cause hysteria or a mass of high fives. Players don't really react in any particular way to a big out for the opposition.

Just saw Watson walking into the rooms. Not looking crook at all, has his bag and trackies on. More funny buggers or is he playing. Wasn't walking as though he was holding in explosive diarrhoea either.

If Essendon need a rumour like that to use to get an edge it smacks of desperation, Collingwood will sense it too, smash them, and then it's going to be a very long season for the Bummers. I'd say he is out, gastro not the real reason.

How much would Bomber give to have blokes that we have sitting on the sidelines, a Dwyer/Adams/Brown in for his Goddard/Jobe/Hocking/Myers!

I think he'd prefer to have Goddard/Hocking/Myers TBH.

It's just about the two funniest words you can write. :D

Why would it be a long season is we lose? Essendon have Dogs and Lions next 2 weeks.

I think, just maybe, if look a little closer and read over it three times, then just maybe you will get it that he actually meant if those guys could replace the outs that you have.

It looks like the Watson rumors are false though.
