The whispers are the AFL are keen on the Blues trading that mid 1st priority pick for Gaff.

Really? The AFL are now involved in player trades? What will those scallywags get up to next?

They're sending Ben Brown up to GC to replace Lynch.

To be honest, I think West Coast would gauge how set Gaff was to get to North before matching... more to the point, I think they'd want to know if Gaff would stay in Perth if they matched it. If the talk around about Gaff being desperate to get back to Victoria for family reasons is factual then there's too much risk for WC to match as they're paying nearly 8 million dollars for a guy that would rather be on the other side of the country.

Saying that, there's been talk our first rounder is off the table for Polec so push comes to shove we might part with it but we also may walk. What is the value of an five to eight pick upgrade I guess?
Worst case scenario if Roos get gaff Polec and Thomas for pick 9 2019 first and some change that’s still a pretty good haul

Yep. There are good reasons why nobody has ever matched.

Agreed. There’s a reason that North is active on players coming in to free agency and it ain’t the word agency.

So North would get Gaff and the comp pick?

No, why would you assume that? Having pick 19 in the mix would just help bridge the gap between what both teams think is a fair outcome. Assuming both teams come to the agreement before hand that they will do some sort of trade to even it up

Like i said before i doubt it will happen but if that's the road they want to go then working in the compo is a no brainer

So WC don't match, gaining Band 1 compensation. And then what's the trade?

No idea tbh, I just assumed that's what Jugada was implying (EDIT - he wasn't)

If Lycett goes, maybe 10/Preuss for 17/35/future pick?

Could always involve Port too:

North gain: Polec, 35
North lose: 10, future third

West Coast gain: 10, 45, future third
West Coast lose: 17, 35

Port gain: 17
Port lose: Polec, 45

Etc.

No, why would you assume that?
Because that's what you said.

"If North and West Coast are going to come to an agreement then surely it involves the Eagles not matching and then working out something on the DL to include the compo pick?"

So any trade would include the compo pick. That means it goes to North.

Where am I going wrong?

See above.

You realise the Gaff compo pick is probably going to be a fair bit lower than 17?

Great trade.

I never said we would trade the compo pick, i meant including it in the trade equation means that North don't need to give up as much to satisfy us. Similar to what someone mentioned before with what they did with the Saints and Luke Delaney

Yeah I switched it to your first, so in effect you'd keep the compo and get our first and a third, but lose your first and second. Probably not that realistic though!

More realistic is probably you not matching and us sending you Preuss for a future third or something, assuming Lycett goes.
