It is a silly thread, alot of people would pick Lucas of course due to his achievements.. However Rocca is not a dud either and I wouldnt compare him to Lucas, maybe compare him with a Nathan Thompson..
Roccas presence is very important for Collingwood, and he does a great job.
when hes on it does lift the rest of the team, and can win matches off his own boot.

Close to silliest thread of all time actually.
If it was Anthony Rocca v Witches Hat then it would be a close call.

Lucas for me but Rocca isn't anywhere near as bad as some people like to make out. He always demands a lot of attention from opposition defences (more than Lucas does) but Lucas is still the better all around package.

How'd he go in contested marks this year? I know that Michael Gardiner was All Australian Ruckman a few years back too..
I like that your club continues to give him a run - it gives the rest of us an unexpected advantage.

Ah the old "gap between his best and worst" argument. By that measure Buckley was twice the player Hird was.
Rocca has a heart. His body is broken but he wins us games regardless. His best is better than Lucas'. He is a leader and is genuinely feared by his opponents: in the Sydney game the swans kicked it away from him for the last 3 quarters.
Lucas is a beautiful player and has been more consistent but frankly he strikes me as a pea heart: I mean they mde Lloyd captain ahead of him. Not nearly as feared or disliked, which gives a hint as to his effectiveness.

Number one in contested marks for 2007 season is what he Medstar meant.
I agree though that poor Anthony has been terribly inconsistent. I would pick Lucas however lucas is probably more like Cloke than Rocca. Rocca does his part though in our forward line by taking the leading backmen and crashing packs.
Maybe a better question would be better forward lines between Collingwood and Essendon.
Do you honestly think that Rocca 'does his part' effectively? Yeah, he takes pretty close to the best defender and all that but if the defender is worth half his salt he'd just play off him all day and kill him everytime. Scarlett loves playing on him because he knows Rocca can't run more than 15 metres before running out of puff. Not that it's his fault but he doesn't have the aerobic capacity to play modern footy. Maybe if he was playing 30 years ago he might of been a star but now he just can't compete with the best defenders. His inconsistancy on top of that just means he's keeping another bloke out of the side who could develop as another key forward for you.
Having a great game every now and then isn't good enough these days.

i love the pies but rocca is useless they got rid of the wrong rocca he should bust open games but doesnt even lead no good dont watch much of the bombers so dont know if lucas is any good

Yep Rocca had a poor year, worse than Lucas in 2007 no doubt.
Yeah AA selection's are crap.
A hard stat like most goals or most marks takes a little more explaining though. Or 4 goals in GF vs the best side in 25 years in the wet.
I liked it when your coach was banging the players missus, it gave the rest of us an unexpected advantage.
