Apparently looking for more money from Brisbane and they don't have the room in their salary cap to please him. I know he's real close with Hendo and maybe we could make a play for him? Would prefer him to Rischa and Brennan, and would snagging him would let us release Gibbs into the midfield.

I hope not.

28 years old, coming off LARS surgery and has never played more than 14 games in a season.

I would rather throw the same money at Shannon Hurn and try to entice him to join his childhood team.

The ONLY players I would be interested in trading for this year that have been mentioned are Hurn to free up Gibbs to play in the midfield, Pav (but god knows that won't happen) and young KPP's such as Trengove/Davis/other who have buckleys to no chance of leaving their clubs.

Don't want Brennan (too expensive and inconsistant), Drummond (injury prone), Riska (our focus shouldn't be our midfield), Stanton (see Riska), Palmer etc.

Would rather use trades to upgrade picks/get YOUNG players than go after older players wanting $$$

My "perfect" trades would be

1) Jacobs + #36 to Port for #16 (il'd throw in steak knifes if required)
2) Walker (if demanding a trade, otherwise keep) for a 2nd rd pick to replace #36 (doubt Walker could demand a 1st rd pick anymore)
3) Thornton + 3rd rd pick for 2nd rd pick

Then I would use #16 and #18 on the best KPP's available, 2nd rd picks on Midfielders/HBF and promote Garlett and Ellard off the rookie list.

Agree. Drummond will turn 28 early next year and has only played 72 games in 6 seasons.

Whereas Hurn who turns 23 next month and has played 73 games seems a better prospect.

Agree with 1. But i'd throw up 3rd rd first to see if they bite at it... i'd also shop around we need to somehow land a middle of the order 1st round so we can get either McCarthy or Watson. With the other pray no one takes Cook.

Walker maybe a bit of a suprise as to what he lands i'd be chucking him at one of the clubs with the earlier 2nd rd picks. Likewise with thornton.

As for Drummond the only reason we'd draft him is if walker stays and carlton decide he needs a friend to sit on the sidelines with him while injured.;)

Didn't realise Drummo was 28 next year :O Thought he was only 24 at the moment damn. Yeah Hurn would be great for our team, not sure how we'd grab him though.

We definitely need a player of his type. Maybe we should go after Hurn because he's younger and less injury prone but if we can't get Hurn maybe we should look at getting him over if we don't have to give up too much to get him. Plenty of room in our cap but I don't want to give too much away. Would love to get a player capable of kicking out.

For mine, Drummond is their playmaker. I'd say he'd be one of a handful that the lions would not let go unless they decided to pack up shop and fill it with youngsters.

Drummond, Brown, Rich are the first 3 untouchables that come to mind.

As above though, we don't need any player that is older than Judd, let alone one with an injury history like his.

Todays HUN, the article regarding Riska and the Gold Coast. Pavlich linked to Carlton and the Suns. I know this probably gets brought up every year (and it is the HUN) but I was exited to read it!!!!

Spot on C4, Hurn is our man. Great delivery by foot and tough to boot. Exactly what we need. :thumbsu:

He can go to the GC17 as an uncontracted player

IF he was going to Carlton it would have to be through a trade (doubt he would make it through to pick #9 in the PSD)

What do you think that trade would be ?????

The HS can say "x player is linked to y club" as much as they like, but there is little to no chance of it being done ............

Gibbs does everything Drummond can do, plus he is younger and can actually defend.

I see no need for Carlton to trade at all, unless players want to go. If Sauce or Tex want to go, trade them for draft picks, not recycled players.

Nah we really do need a quality defender who can kick. We aren't to far off challenging for a flag within a couple of years and another draft pick would take too long to develop. We need someone around 23/24 who is ready to slot in and knit a solid defense with the others around him.

Get a clue before you post crap. Since when does Gibbs ever hit pinpoint passes to teammates 60 meters away, kickout effectively and kick running goals from the center square on an occasional basis? Gibbs is more suited to a midfield role and is only in defence to fill in the hole left by the absence of a Drummond or Hurn type player.

If we can get either Hurn or Drummond it would add to our side enormously. The only reason some people here don't want Drummond is because he is injury prone and aging.

When was Gibbs unable to kick? I would've said he is clearly Carlton's best kick.

Recruiting Drummond would be a huge mistake. He's a good player, but is 28 next year and has never played a full season. 72 games in 6 years has danger written all over it.

As for Hurn, he is a kickout specialist, but not much else. He is suspect defensively and doesn't win his own ball.

Russell needs to find consistency and confidence, but has the similar attributes as Drummond and Hurn with a better defensive game, and Gibbs has been sensational in the backline this year. I don't understand some supporters' fascination with moving him back into the middle when he's played his best footy this year down back.

As much as I think Hurn woiuld an ideal trade for the CFC it isn't going to happen.

Contracted until the end of 2011 (3):
Dean Cox - Signed a 4-year deal (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) in February 2008.
Beau Waters – Signed a 3-year deal (2009, 2010, 2011) in March 2008.
Shannon Hurn – Signed a 3-year deal (2009, 2010, 2011) in April 2008.

Sauce

Hurn has another year to run on his contract and would be considered a top priority by Wet Toast for an extension on his stay in Perth.

They would be totally against letting him go.

Wet Toast would be stupid to trade one of their genuine young stars so unless he demands a trade, which as of yet there has been no sign of, he isn't getting to Carlton this year.

I know he's 28 and injury prone but you have to remember one crucial detail in our favour.. We'd be dealing with Vossy on the trade table.

Offer him a 4th round draft pick and one of Andrew Cavedon or Darren Tarczon and he'd be as good as ours.

Nothing to lose imo.
