So it took Hinkley to work out how to beat the saints by playing one on one footy……Geesh.

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
It was a very effective switch.

I watched the ball movement closely last night. When the saints were on top the plane was really clear. Chip it around until they had a clean possession at half back. Go long up the wing to a target and then go inside, a bit earlier than a lot of teams do but it guaranteed that when you go inside 50 it was to someone straight in front of goal.

Even when it went to shit for them and they were scrambling for possession at half forward they still never took a shot from the boundary, always looking for a target on a straight angle from the goals.

Even though Port had a much more contested style they still had a similar approach to their entries, not having shots from the boundary and trying to get the ball straight in front of their goals. Apart from Powell-Pepper who just plays chaos ball the entire time and tries to kick them from everywhere.

And Geelong look average a couple of weeks before that.
No. They were average. Below average for them. I don't see the point of excuses or pretending. We haven't been good.
Yet...

I'm NOT all about the technicals. The most straightforward thing I saw was 1 on 1 contest for most of the night.

The capacity to acknowledge that your strategy or game plan is ineffective is essential. Voss should have definitely gained some valuable insights from Ken.

I posted on Reddit last week what we all know here that Voss is far too rigid with his gameplan and needs to be more flexible...A number of Port fans all chimed in saying ",he learned that from Ken."

Go figure.

only watched the second half on replay but golly Port have some talent and fast as ****!

When they bomb 3 or 4 times Dixon didn’t even try to mark, held front position, kept his opponent away with one arm and flat palmed to the small forward leading to goals.
****ing brilliant thinking from Dixon and/ or the coaching staff.
Rioli and Dixon were barely more than a few metres apart for two quarters I saw.

Maybe he had all these ideas
..if I were King I'd...and he is stubborn about his perceived improvements on Kenny's plan?
Got me stumped.

Have to admit, I am starting to enjoy the Take Me Home, Country Road Riff after every time Charlie Cameron scores a goal.

It would be serious overkill if they did it after every Lions goal, but just for CC's goals at the Gabba, it's all a bit of amusing fun.

Are AFL players dumber these days? Why kick around the corner when it’s not even necessary? 20 metres out on a slight angle and Zorko misses. We see it with heaps of players around the league. Kicking round the corner wasn’t a thing for 150+ years and no one had any issue with kicking goals they are routinely missed these days. This technique of kicking for goal seems to be more of a hindrance than anything.

Our I50 entries let us down last week. If we had done better in that area, I really believe it would have been a different result.
Yes they did and it certainly may of cost us a chance to snatch the game, but there is imo a lack of connection in a handful of areas that is not helping us function properly as a team…
If and when we can sort these problem areas out then we have the chance to become a very good side, although we also need to address certain player types come the end of the year, firstly let’s try and improve what we need too this year…
