don't get me wrong, i hate the pies as much as the next person... i took morbid delight watching malthouse, didak and co in tears after that GF loss.... but given that west coast lost their champion to an agenda by the laughably incompetent WA police, and hysteria stirred up by vic-based media personalities, the fact is cousins will find a new home in 2009.

collingwood have long been envious of west coast, as evidenced by their poaching of our (at the time) elite head coach and the recycling of numerous players. yet they have never been able to match our success.

but, if it does eventuate, the reunion of malthouse and cousins will take this underachieving team to another level. perhaps even enough to to win them a GF.

perhaps the pies undying pursuit to emulate the mighty west coast will finally pay off?

Wouldn't you rather see him back where he belongs??? If he is clear to play, then it should be for us.

yeah that's right, WC lost him alllll cos of the WA Police

i think the only certainty with cousins is that he'll end up like mainwaring or in jail, one of the two

you cant say that.

He may be mentally weak in one area, but he has shown he has mental toughness in enduring physical pain week in week out in another arena. He needs to learn to transfer that tolerance to his personal life.

i dont doubt that, but hopefully he transfers that mental toughness, sooner rather than later. An overdose is'nt going to wait. And some of the people cousins associates with - he cant just stop being friends with them overnight, doesnt work that way

................ but given that west coast lost their champion to an agenda by the laughably incompetent WA police, and hysteria stirred up by vic-based media personalities,.......... ?

I just wonder whether you realise that Benny has a very serious drug addiction, and he may never be able to attain the physical fitness to play footy again.

As a supporter of the club, I can understand that, but the club is paying the penalty for allowing him so much grace over the years and turning a blind eye where one shouldnt have been turned. Direct your anger at the admin of the club. Because you have reason to.

No, I actually still disagree with his sacking. So i have beef with the admin for other reasons.

I just hope he comes back to the WCE - but I doubt it.

on what grounds do you disagree with his sacking?

He breached his contract repeatedly with both the club and the AFL. The club just refused to acknowledge and act on these breaches for so long, it became part of the problem.

The AFL had no choice in the end, if they were to uphold their drug and rehab policy and also their reputation as a sport that wont condone a health threat that comes with habitual use of banned substances.

It was 7 or 8 years of turning a blind eye by the management because he was playing well that led him to be so cocky and arrogant about it all - he was untouchable. But it eventually unravelled.......

WC have already said no way jose. So can that fantasy.

If Cousins ever plays AFL again (and I hope that he doesn't play unless he is fit and mentally and emotionally ready) I would like to see him play for a team that could really use his services like say Richmond or the Western Bulldogs .

I disagree with removing drug addicts from their primary occupation...but that's a debate for another time, because it's been done to death

Sorry. I was certain that you said you hate (present tense) the Pies as much as the next guy. If someone hates a team but would like to see them win the premiership at the same time it is rather odd and quite a contradiction.

It could be called taking pity on your enemies - I remember a lot of non-Collingwood supporters were actually cheering for them in the 1990 GF (Obviously no Dons supporters) because they felt a kind of pity for a club that could make so many GFs and lose them all the time  It was almost like a relief for the Non-Pies as well - A bit like Doctor Evil finally triumphing over Austin Powers?

I love it when they throw the Vic media in the mix. Pretty much sums up the whole thing.

Anyway, if what MM and Cousins spoke about had anything to do with the Collingwood reserves/VFL team, if Cousins ended laying VFL for Collingwood, if he straightened himself out and had a good season and if he provided a positive role model then the chances of him ending up on Collingwood’s VFL list would be minimal.

Cousins would still have to go into the draft. Would Collingwood be prepared to either tank or trade to get high enough in the draft to take him ?
