I'd sack all the assistant coaches, pay the tax for a season and start again.

Senior assistant - Brett Ratten
Offensive coach - David Teague
Midfield coach - Nigel Lappin
Defensive coach - Leigh Tudor
Senior Development coach - John Blakey
Assistant Development coach - Luke Hodge

Others: S.Lloyd, Francou, Bassett, Kirk, Smith, Nicks, Kingsley

What part of today's presser makes Collingwood attractive to the Luke hodges and James Kelly's of the afl industry? Seriously I'd like to know?

And I'm not taking the piss. Look at it objectively. What makes Collingwood an appealing destination for assistant coaches or ex players wanting to coach? Wouldn't your hodges or Kelly's want to go to a successful club to learn themselves? What skills and teachings has Nathan got that Luke Hodge or nick Maxwell or anyone else going to want to learn about?

Why would a prospective assistant coach want to come to Collingwood and give up all their IP and new ideas so that Nathan can use it to look good himself?

People seem to say look to Richmond, but carracella and Hardwick are best mates. Similar to Burns Sanderson Harvey and Bucks. And dimma has a strong respect and relationship with leppa for years.

Basically, the football department is starting from scratch. New relationships will need to be built. So next year, if we're off to a 5-7 start to the year, are the excuses going to be "well Bucks is starting from scratch with a new group of assistants that he didn't know before 2017. We need to give them time to gel"?

I can literally see this excuse being shot out by McGuire if we ain't 7-5 after 12 rounds.

If I was Luke hodges or James Kelly's manager I would be advising them to steer clear of the Collingwood dumpster fire and find positions at clubs with less drama, better qualified head coaches and that have made the finals in the past 4 years. Oh and at clubs that aren't expecting to hire you so the head coach can pinch all your ideas from your time as a player at a successful club.

Haha I like your style. Get every best assistant coach in the AFL to Collingwood to ensure the damage of having a poor head coach is minimised.

If we can sign Hodge then we should have just straight out appointed him as head coach. He's demonstrated on field he will be a far superior coach now than Nathan will ever be. Hodge is ready to go. He's basically been an on field assistant coach at Hawthorn for the past 6 years. And once again proves that backmen most often make the best senior coachces

Wow! Now that's a coaching group that I could get excited about although there's more chance of the two of us getting a gig than the club going down that path, IMO. We'd need to go over the FD cap to bring it all together and I just can't see the club doing that.

I think we need something to get excited about that we aren't paying through the teeth for on-field, but we're too stubborn to spend the money...

I don't doubt we wont be seeing such a star studded lineup though we definitely need to be looking towards some of those names otherwise what's the point?

If we do appoint Roos in the role of coaching director he's likely to command a pay packet equal to or exceeding that of Buckley so you and I might be the only ones left they can afford.;)

In all serious though if it isn't Roos we need to target Ratten as senior assistant with one or two others named in that pool of assistants to be considered.

Essendon for example have a premiership senior coach as well as 3 assistants in McKenna, Harvey and Neeld who are former senior AFL coaches.

It has just been said on the ABC sport's panel a minute ago that Burns leaving for Hawthorn says a lot about what is happening at Collingwood. Posters may excuse the move because of the need to pad out a CV etc but he's only been at the club for a short time and would surely have stayed if he believed the club was likely to achieve success next year. Symbolically the switch seems significant.

rubbish
he eyed the tea leaves pal and saw he had no chance of the gig and better to get a job at hawthorn due to the childish bias existing in MOST clubs ,padding his cv .
Wants a senior gig , knew bucks was locked in

a/ support piss and poo
b/ wish you did

and yeah were all still waiting for the comparison of the 2002 /2003 lists you were challanged on but that would actually require some thought.
All your posts directly bag bucks and our club, were in development , the previous coach run us into the ground and stuffed our culture through his selfish acts ,his swengali coaching style and his piss poor attitude.

Eddie was on On the Couch last night and hinted that we may not have the money to go all out in the coaching department because the implementation of the equalization has ripped our revenue avenues out of our hands.

That's a croc of shit. If revenue is flagging its due to poor on field performance not decisions made by the AFL commission. I bet he didn't elaborate on the how of that statement either? Nor why we hadn't invested differently to prevent it having an impact?

Re-investing in core business will provide a much greater bang for our buck than our netball franchise ever will, but we're stuck with that for now...

Edit: I see those comments akin to a chairman of a tech company in the early 00's saying they can't go all out in R&D due to the introduction of GST. I mean it doesn't actually make sense unless your business model is completely ****ed.

A. Nope support Collingwood
B. Nope my wish is to support Collingwood
C. Nope not related to Malthouse, or any player or coach or admin person of any club.

Which post are your referring to exactly re: 2002/03 list? Happy for you to post it again. I get a lot of feedback on here so you understand I may miss a reply from from time to time.

I bag individuals within in the club yes. They deserve it after 7 years of BS. Apologies for holding key decision makers to account. We should just all submit to the narrative supplied by Ed and Bucks for evermore. Clearly, every word they say is 100% truth and no spin...

And you can have your opinion about Malthouse that's fine. I have mine. I'm allowed to think succession plan was the biggest joke in Australian football history. All a rouse by Ed, Pert and Craig Kelly to gift the job to someone, albeit a golden child of the club, who never earned it.

All depends on perspective I suppose. Just as you can call me a none Collingwood supporter for bagging Buckley and Ed, I can call you anti Collingwood for continuing to support mediocrity. That's opinions. Everyone got one

trav thanks for replying
youre right we all have different view points, i and many posters feel that the succession plan got us the 2010 flag out of nothing due to the urgency created by the time frame. Should have got us 2011 apart from the petulance of MM , if he had have stuck fat to HIS agreement maybe we would have another story.
Mate its not seven years even its 5 and the cattle had to be moved due to Micks Swengali coaching style (mchale ,thomas the same style) which required a rebuild, harder to do with two expansion clubs at the time and low picks. We traded up and our kids got injured.
2002/2003 finalls teams some still claim was genius coaching, me give me that list any day over this one.
All these guys play before any current players
Presti,clement,pebbles, nick davis,tarrant,johno,leon.bucks,licuria,burns,fraser,obree
(some team that)
Time to pull together now
