I don't think it's been mentioned here, but Spurs have an 18 year old Aussie by the name of Massimo Luongo. He's been sensational over the last few months at youth level for us and really looks like he could become a top play-maker in the future. He's strong and robust, great user of the ball and very solid defensively. Any chance he'll get a call up from one of he aussie youth sides?

Sounds like Spase Dilevski all over again :)

Scotland are interested in capping Herd - apparantly.
Take it with a grain of salt, but I for one am in the camp that if you have a talented youngster with potential, who might be capped by another nation, just give the kid two damn minutes in a friendly and lock him away for life.

Can't understand why the FFA/ Selection panel/ National manager's of Australia don't do this.

You don't know anything about him.

FFS, seriously? Absolutely can't let him slip. Looked very good for Villa against Wolves and should easily be good enough to get a game here, in both central midfield and maybe right-back.

Why didn't we call him up for the Thailand game?

Need to cap him. He's gonna be a good future player. If he starts continuousely playing for villa then definately cap him. I believe hes there first choice right back atm because young went to qpr which is good news for him.

They bought Hutton as well, who will undoubtedly be their first choice.

We should just bring him in to play central midfield. Considering spuds like Valeri and Kilkenny are our first choice CMs, it couldn't possibly be much of a downgrade, if it is one at all.

Play Herd at Right Back and push Wilkshire in the midfield to take over someone like Valeri and Kilkenny. Was it Valeri or Kilkenny who did that stupid pass that turned the ball over and ended up being a goal to Thailand last Friday.

I think we are ok with situations like Williams/Wales and Herd/Scotland as they would have to be mentally challenged to defect to a team with a small chance of playing at the WC, when Australia now have a much more favourable route to the tournament. The players we lost to Croatia 10 years ago is a much different proposition. Same deal with the Turkish guy recently.

Whilst I don't disagree we would be far better off caping them and making sure they're signed up for life.

Yep, like I said, take it with a grain of salt, it's not official, however usually with these rumours where there's smoke there's fire. Scotland definetely have their eye on him, and if he plays well they won't hesitate to make the offer like we will.

Ofcourse Australia is more appealing than Scotland, but if you start getting to 23, 24 years of age and you have one nation offering you a starting spot and one nation that hasn't even been in contact with you then it can question your allegiance.

It's the same situation when the Gulum rumours starting circling around Turkey, and it was revealed the FFA didn't even contact him. Also Gulum's dad was a Turk and apparantly was influential as he wanted his son to play for Turkey. Herd's parents are Scottish and you never know if that influence will come through again. I just don't want to see that happen again, just cap the guy this year before he jumps ship. As far as my knowledge of the rules goes, even if you sub him on in the 89th minute and he only plays a minute in a friendly then he has been capped and locked away for life. Cannot hurt at all.

He played for the Australian schoolboys team. Been playing very well for our under 19's.

Tim Sherwood (technical director) described his last game as immense. He was captain for a bit of that game so definitely highly rated.

He was named in the training camp for Australia a few months ago so he is on the radar.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but Leckie got the final 20 minutes against Schalke. I think he's been getting 10-20 minutes towards the end of the last few Bundesliga matches.

I thought he'd be anonymous over there for a while, the fact that he's already getting a little bit of gametime is great news for a 20 year old. Hopefully he can score a few late goals and start to push for a starting spot.

EDIT: It has been mentioned earlier. My bad :p

Pretty much the same with Rukavystya for Hertha Berlin. 3 sub appearances so far this season.

Borussia Monchengladbach Def Kaiserslautern 1-0, Leckie didn't play any minutes, was on the bench though.

don't know exactly when, I'm guessing it was recent but Tommy Oar scored an absolute ripper.

I don't want to be one of those guys who's all "he's the next harry kewell blah blah" - But the goal is young Harry Kewell-esque

He won't be the next Harry Kewell, he'll be a even better :thumbsu:

Looks like he's sealed his starting 11 spot for Utrecht. Should be getting capped more often now.
