Who does he play for GB?

Been in our ranks for over a year now, and is easily one of our best prospects. You'll find a lot of Spurs supporters who follow our academy saying he'll play a big part in our future.

I've seen him play a bit, and what impresses me most is his football brain. Very intelligent and mature player for someone who's 19 and regularly dominates the midfield in our NextGen games.

Luongo helped us beat the dippers 1-0, setting up a semi-final showdown with either Barcelona or Ajax, who have two of the best academies in the world.

Also worth noting that we have another young aussie who recently joined from Sutherland Sharks FC in Australia, Giancarlo Gallifuoco. Funny how we're snapping these kids up before the A-League teams.

It's always happened, a heap of players were always plucked from state league teams before they ever made NSL level. Some were through these bullshit academies set up by teams like West Ham etc.

Thats how it should be. **** the A league pricks not giving proper transfer fees. Its an absolute joke. State league clubs get shit all $ for players. The ffa needs to treat the state league clubs more fairley.

I think the club that has trained players in their youth should recieve something along the lines of 5% of any transfer fees. Only problem there is that many players don't get sold for transfer fees anyway!

Nikita Rukavystya scored for Hertha tonight but hey let's give Archie another cap..
This.

It happens too often with Australia. As good as Archie is, he's old. Nathan Burns could've been something but it looks like his chances are furhter slipping away, Rukavystya the same.

Oh, and while we're at it, lets give another cap to Nick Carle, while in the mean time we have other attacking players like Leckie, Amini, Antonis, Oar, Sarota, Bozanic, Nichols, Kantarovski, Bulut etc. all looking like potential freaks. Why doesn't Australia follow the pattern with other nations and give more games to guys under 23? That's how you'll get them used to the national team and the pace of international football, and get them known to bigger clubs around the world. Put them on the world stage and let them shine.

Look at guys like Gotze, Hazard, Alcantra, Eriksen getting plenty of games for their national teams - fresh out of the womb, ffs. I know our crop of young Aussie talents aren't as good, but they're Australia's equivalent nevertheless.

My absolute pet hate is giving guys that are well past their best (and never going to make it again) caps ahead of youngsters.

Around the world, the nations brightest young players are introduced at 18,19,20 years of age. In Australia they are introduced at 21,22,23 years of age.

By the time a player is 22/23 they are already established, at big clubs, and playing in world cups as their teams key player, they've probably played in 10-20 internationals already. In Australia however, we've just given them their first or second cap against some low ranked nation in a dead rubber or a friendly.

We need to start giving guys games early, let's use these dead rubbers as a chance to develop for the the future. I said it before the match and will say it again now, there was no need to play Schwarzer in the match against the Saudis. It would have been a great chance to get a cap into Ryan or Langerak or Federici.

Likewise Leckie or Bulut could have been given a run up front. Oar or Amini a game in the midfield. If they don't play well, so what? They learn from it and gain great experience. If they do play well, you may have just unearthed a new star.

Absolutely. There's stil an archaic overhang with Socceroos selection. Plenty of youngsters should have a couple of caps already –*but are still languishing without even an approach. It's disappointing and it could result in Australia becoming worse off.

Rukavystya has gone from playing in the World Cup to not being in one of Holger's squads so far in his 18 months or so in charge. My only dislike of Holger so far is his complete ignorance of Nikita.

Holman will head to Aston Villa in June/July on a free transfer. Once his deal is done with AZ at the end of this season he's off to the EPL.

Nice move but he needs to be playing regularly for it to pay off.
That being said, his hard running, high intensity hustling style does suit the EPL.

Would have preferred to him to have gone to a larger club in Holland or Germany. No use to us if he makes a token appearance for the last 20 minutes over every second or third premier league game. What if McLeish gets the arse (likely) and the new manager doesn't like him too.

Germany yes, he is basically in one of the bigger clubs in Holland.

The lack of updates here illustrates a pretty sad state of affairs.

Are there no up and coming Aussies doing well? Considering plonkers Carney and Valeri are still in the Socceroos Squad, I'm very worried for what the future holds.

What's Luongo doing these days GB?

He hasn't played much at all since Spurs were kicked from the NextGen Tournemant, and for whatever reason, we decided not to send him out on loan.

He's probably good enough to start in the current Socceroos Squad though. It's a shame they still don't know of his existence.

Robbie Kruse's Fortuna Dusseldorf are promoted, at the expense of Rukavysta's Hertha Berlin. Valeri's Sassuolo still a chance of being promoted too.

Zullo, Oar and Sarota didn't play much for Utrecht.

Apparantly a 19 year old Aussie, Corey Gameiro, just resigned for Fulham for the 2012/13 season.

Haven't heard much about him but apparantly he's a decent prospect. Anyone got any info? Is he an actual decent prospect? Or one of these apparant young guns that will sit on the bench for the next 4 years and we won't hear about him until he's 23 and getting a few minutes off the bench in some Championship team?
