If Haze does play he has to prove he still has it at this level as he has missed so much Test cricket over the past season or so. He is a quality bowler, but picking up the threads again of Test cricket and specially regaining that relentless accuracy that has made him arguably our best specialist seamer since the great Glenn McGrath wont be easy. Reckon he has played too much white ball and needs to be now playing red ball.

What a mess of a squad. Why are our replacements for Green 2 mediocre openers and a No rounder?

4 bowlers + Smith, Head and Marnus is plenty. Cumdog, Boland, Hazlewood and Lyon.

There really isn’t a reserve AR close to ready. Hardie sure and I may have gambled but he’s nowhere near ready the rest are awful

No one is denying that. The disparity tho could be put down to whwre they plated most of their games. SOK the SCG whic has produced many spin friendly games over his career while Agar had the least spin friendly track in the country to work on, the WACA.

Close in numbers but not performances. Agar has three FC centuries and a 98. SOK none.

Come off it mate. Do the eye test. One of them is a spinner and the other is Agar who bowls ODI straight balls

Agree. Tho instead of Shield I’d have a best Oz A and B teams play a five day match in early January. It should be played in Hobart or Perth depending on which Capital does not get a Test Match that season.

The match would help selection for wherever we are next touring.
Like that idea but again this big bash crap is the problem and not sure how you get around it as supposedly brings all the money in with TV rights etc.

Would get eyes, inc on telly. Doubt the Tower of BaBeL fans would notice some extra park cricket sloggers being chucked in.

Hardie hasn't been good in the shield this summer, though. He actually didn't deserve a call-up.

Glad someone can see this. I like Aaron a lot and think he has a bright future but feel the excitement is boiling over from an innings 10 months ago and a few minor cameo's in shorter forms of the game.

He will earn a national call up (albeit probably) to the shorter form sides initially but it will happen. Looks compact enough to deal with the moving ball and can play both horizontal and straight shots which is big for a top order bat.

Im not a huge agar fan but we will need a sla in india simple as that, these guys sometimes just need to bowl straight and they will pick up 5 on some indian decks in saying that unless its a legit old school scg turner he shouldnt be playing in the third test.

should have gone with Handscomb who is the form batsmen of the shield.

Yeah no. Renshaw is better if you take out the Junction innings which is always a road

They have Renshaw
I think important we go on performances in the shield this season.BUT Renshaw 8 inn.2no 310 runs but that includes a 200no.Surely Handscomb is in front of him if we are talking about middle order batsman and the only spot would be as a opener.Take out Renshaws 200 and it 110 runs from 7 innings.Interesting times ahead for the tour of India.

No, I won't. Road or not, you still need to score the runs and the attack he faced even now, in hindsight, was a very good innings. Parish, Hardie, Morris.

It’s a flat road. Renshaw is better despite what Victoria keep saying. If it was Maxwell all for it

Hardie must smell or something

He’s just not banging the door down like people will have you believe.

However, a recent dip in form might’ve played a role in deterring national selectors from calling up Hardie. He has averaged 26.83 with the bat in the Sheffield Shield this summer, taking just seven wickets in five matches.

Because they played him earlier this year overseas and he sucked?

India is also its own special challenge, leggies generally get thumped over there we will go the offie and sla as nearly all teams do in india and none of it will matter as it will be the batting that will cost us anyway not which spinners we pick.
